I'm not the only one who sees the resemblance between Nightmist and Mindphyre am I?
Spite's Drug-Wracked Monstrosity side has the same glowing white hair, doesn't he?
Er, probably. I play Spite so very little that I wouldn't notice. Although I guess if it were Nightmist she'd have her white magical aura, I'm going to quietly believe it's her to myself.
Well if that doesn't convince you, then perhaps this will. He went down there during Deadline, which happens before Progeny even appears. NightMist is present while Progeny is around. The tubes are also full besides one when The Chairman goes down there. So it cannot be NightMist.
They may be the only surviving occupants, but things don't always stay dead. Or there was someone down there who was never IN a tube, which is why there were so few survivors…
Christopher's updates are always true, for a given value of true.
I just actually went back and re-read it more carefully, to see if I was missing something and I clearly was, so guess I’m wrong everybody. I’m going to chalk it up to bring hungry and sleep deprived, even though in better condition I would probably see patterns where there were none, as is common. Like seriously her look and the use of the word discord were enough to make me think it’s her and entirely gloss over the fact that he already had a body. So unless he got a sample I’d her DNA and the mist I guess this one is busted.
Progeny broke Rook City, down to levels so deep that pipes bearing chemicals to Pike's underground chamber were disrupted. It would be many years before anyone emerged from the Barzakh chamber.
Maybe Nightmist's body was in the tubes, seperated from her soul, and Nightmist's spirit is trapped in mist and she is trying to find ways to come back during Progeny.
Not being able to reform without being cestroyed could mean all kinds of things.
I just can't see a balanced and engaging character with a full deck whose power is "Eats anything and is big" who goes with a second character whose power is "Is big and dumb and hits things".
If they are all Characters then I am displeased that the Citizens of the sun had to be minion level targets. They are more engaging and have better power sets than these Spites.
I am still hoping that the Spites are not each characters.
Spite would make a great character, these not so much.
Maybe they are multiple targets in one character or something, that would be cool.
I'd rather fight as a Citizen then as one of these.
I don't think we'd get a big "look at all these guys" reveals if they were only minions. The absolute least I could see is the Spite Squad being a collective character.
Let's not jump to any conclusions about them just yet.
And I slightly disagree about the Citizens. Anvil, Truth, and Dare might really work well, but what honestly would be the difference between Hammer and Summer? Assault and Hack or Slash? What the hell does Autumn even do? Spring only has healing powers as far as we know. That wouldn't make a great stand alone character.
Lets see what Luther/Christopher have in mind for their character kits first.
I have confidence that they can be fully realized characters on their own.
for Cyst- its not about "big and fat" its about managing his addiction TO eating everything. Its about turning that food into toxic nastiness. Its about being able to go right through stuff that other characters have to go around. Its about heroes recoiling in horror at the maw under the mask.
For Karnal- its about brute strength and dealing with a character who (maybe) can hurt themselves if they think too hard. Maybe you're not allowed to pass up a target if it nearest to you? Maybe he's immune to psychic meddling because theres nothing there to work on! Maybe he has more health than Omnitron, hits harder than Legacy, and is an absolute beast at hand-to-hand.
The citizens are minions because each of them is sharply defined as being subservient to Dawn- they are intrinsically part of her character. The Spites have a degree of agency that the Citizens don't, really. they obey, but theres a strong undercurrent of "for now".
Also we just found out that Citizen Anvil's powers are Teleportation and sprouting protective Wings.
That's a freaking awesome powerset that is underexplored by a large margin.
Spite is one of the least likable or empathizable characters in the game, to take him and make 5 playable characters out of his drug addled insanity?
Blech.
I honestly am so excited for the Dark Watch that these stooges won't impact my excitement for the expansion. Take the least interesting parts of the Rook City Expansion and turn it into 6 playable Characters, that just doesn't make sense to me.
We have known about these characters for a while now and all signs pointed to them being Spite-esque goons. Not sure the reason for the sudden shade being thrown their way
Let's see how they did things. Then we can worry about the details. But for now, we know the story and that's it. We don't know how that interacts with the game.
I always thought that the Chairman was fascinating. I've spent lots of time speculating about what his agenda is, how he rose to power, how he spots talent, how he maintained the Operative's loyalty… If anything, this just makes him more fascinating because his instructions to the Spites wasn't just "kill everyone who disagrees" it was to "make things better" AND stop anyone who disagrees. Thats really interesting to me.
for Spite, I've been interested in his story ever since I started thinking about how he actually pulled off all of his murdering. Ever since I realized that he wasn't some deranged thug, he was the killer who made you trust him first. Who spent time cultivating his target's trust so that he could betray them. Who spent time getting to know people so that he could really make it hurt most when he stabbed them in the back (and the front).
Like telling an idealistic kid that he was a superhero, looking for a sidekick.
