I love SotM, but I always thought it would be fun to take on a Villain 1 on 1 sometime. Clearly the game is not designed for this, but it could be.
The Vengenace villains were clearly designed to work together as a team, which made sense from a story perspective, but with Villains it would be cool if they would be set up to work by themselves. This would allow 1 on 1 duels between 1 hero and 1 Villain. I think this would be blast. I think it would also create a ton of excitment for Villains.
I have already put my preorder in for Villains, but I would be very pumped if they allowed solo hero games.
It's not an officially supported way to play, but since the Veangence format villains do not use the [H] mechanic for scaling purposes, you could certainly play 1v1 like this. Some combinations will be better than others since it is not balanced this way, but nothing is stoping you from doing it!
For example 1v1 FrightTrain is a nightmare, where as in group fights he is rarely the most damgerous.
I'd say go for it, the fights can be a lot of fun, but there are numerous heroes that will struggle 1v1, while others excel. (for example Legacy is not strong 1v1, but his daughter is awesome)
The same is true with villains, and I expect that with 10 more villains we will see more decks that are support/tank decks that might not balance well for 1v1.
The theme and play are fun, I've done several, I mean who doesn't want to replay that one time when Lt. Vance got stuck 1v1 with Fright Train, (that is not an easy fight) or the battle through the streets of Rook City after the Wraith caught Ermine in the act.
1 on 1 play is fun, but you just have to make it up as you go as most decks assume at least 2 heroes. I agree that it is quite satisfying, but any lone hero in Rook City is in for a rough day...
Of course, I suspect that the game would depend on how quickly Ra drew Drawn to the Flame. If the setups follow the pattern of the Vengeance Villains, the game will begine with around 9 ongoings in play. That's a lot of damage...
