Flipping Blade

My playgroup and I are new to the game, and we have a question about beating Baron Blade.

When we take his first side out, and flip him. If he has 4HP and we do 12 DMG, does his flipped side start with 30, or do we continue that DMG and keep rolling with 22HP?

He goes to 30. Blade was at 4 and you deal Blade 12 damage. This brings Blade to -8. Now, since his hp is lower than 0, he is destroyed, but his card says to flip him instead, and restore him to 30. All damage is dealt at once, so Blade takes the entire 12, then you see about other triggers.

Also, if Blade is dealt 1 & 1 damage (Fanatic’s innate, for instance) at 1 HP he would flip but not be dealt the second instance of damage because he is technically a “new” target.

That’s right, isn’t it?

My gut reaction is you still deal the second instance of damage.

But I see what you're getting at

If it is a different target, things like Twist the Ether would be destroyed when he flips. However, I do think it is the same target. The card says to "restore baron Blade to 30 hp." At least to me, it seems like it is the same "Baron Blade," and you are restoring his hp.

Blade is still the same target, he is not a new target entering play. If flipping a card is a new target entering play, then Omnitron triggers Hairtrigger Reflexes so many times!

Christopher ruled this for me during the introduction to GSF boogle chat: I asked about the talisman flipping and the interaction thereof with bounties, and he told me that a flipping target is still the same target, so it is not leaving or entering play, but merely changing gameplay text.

Following this logic, Exorcism would continue on Blade’s flip side.

Yeah, we've always played it that blade takes that second hit. So if that 12 points mentioned in the original post was actually two instances of damage (6 and 6), he'd take the first 6, go to 0 (or -2), flip, resest to 30, and take the second 6.

Only Miss Information enters play during the game.  For Villain Character cards that is.

Psst. The Ennead.

No one cares about the Ennead Ronway.

sigh.

Of Villain Character cards Miss Information is the only target that enters play by flipping.

Psst. The Chairman (although this rarely happens).

That depends what way the Chairman is facing when he is on top of the deck.

He wouldn't enter play then flip, he would enter play proper side up.

So, he would flip then enter play. So he enters play by flipping.

Flipping is a game mechanic with specific meaning.  under your interpretation every card would flip then enter play.

Not every card, but most.

The Chairman is already a target in play at the start of the game, he's just immune to everything. You can still try and hit him with stuff, unlike Miss Information who for targeting purposes doesn't exist until she's flipped.

Unless the Chairman is killed before the Operative, the deck is then shuffled and he comes to the top of the deck.
