The flavor text for the new Elbow Smash is still from the same issue interestingly enough. Though I do believe they flavour text probably still exist and if a comic is ever made of that issue both lines would appear in it at some point or another. I think the main reason for switching of flavour text was to give those who actually owned the first edition something else to look foward to and give even more hints to speculating. What fun would exploring the decks be if it was still the same old lines that were already seen a million and two times before hand.
I'm attempting a project of mapping out all the quotes and comic lines. I'm still waiting for my 2nd Edition to arrive. I'll have both 1st and 2nd, but now don't know whether 1st should be considered accurate still. I'd hope it all is...that many more hints towards the wonderful multiverse. I guess I'll just hold off on everything though and wait til the 2nd Edition arrives and start with that. Then if >G would at least let slip if 1st edition quotes are still real then I can go back and do those.
I honestly don't see any reason why the flavor text from the core set would no longer be cannon. The gameplay functionality, yes, but not the flavor. The Enhanced Edition would simply contain more flavor text, not replacing the old.
I just wonder if from their side of things they discovered typos in the text that they realized they needed to change. We wouldn't know if a typo put something out of skew with the rest of the multiverse plot lines or not.
But I certainly hope you are right…this back story element is one of my favorite things about the game.
Two? Now I'm curious to know what else has changed since playtest I knew how the card worked had changed, but I was unaware that the card counts of his had changed as well. I can't wait to get my set and see what all I've been playing wrong
(The "final proof" sheet also didn't show the 5 -> 3 change for Staff of Ra, that I read about in the other thread).
I was quite surprised as well. It came up when I got a Profane Summons. I was telling the group that I didn't think there were any other relics in the deck, but out came another Gauntlet. When I registered surprise at this, Patrick raised his arms and said, "Two hands." Which is why it would have been awesome to clearly show one as left hand and one as right hand.
Only three staves? That's news to me. I'll have to look at that. But I do know he had four before.
Ah, right. Well, it probably took just a couple game of playtesting to realize how crazy that was. I remember posting about gaining 25 life one game by continuously playing staves. So they changed it after posting the proofs, which I figured they would do with some things. Same with card counts. It's interesting, though.
