Greetings from Spain

Hi everybody,

I just found about this game a couple of weeks ago as I was looking for some cooperative games. After reading a couple of reviews on the BGG (ok, more like 30 or 35 reviews, but hey, who's counting? xD ) my enthusiasm skyrocketed and I ordered a copy of the game through and online spanish store yesterday (last copy of the enhanced edition, by the way, these puppies are selling fast, it seems :D ) and it should be in my grubby hands by the end of next week ^_^

I just wanted to say hello to everybody. This looks like a great community and I can't wait for my copy of the game to arrive as I grew up reading Marvel comics and I love the genre.

Welcome to the forum!  Love your handle.  Runaways is a great comic!  I've only read the first few trades, but it has been nothing but fantastic so far.

My curiousity is piqued. What do you mean by 'online spanish store'?

welcome and hello to you too!

Hello Victor y Bienvenido!

If you are from Barcelona let me know and we could meet to play some Sentinel games! I also live at this side of the Atlantic

Literally like CoolStuffInc, but in Spanish. You thought in Spain we had none? :stuck_out_tongue:

There was just something about the phrasing that seemed ambiguous to me. No big deal and no offense meant.

I have been to Spain twice and it is one of my favorite places. I was not able to spend a lot of time in any one place, but have been to Madrid, Pontevedra, Sevilla, Valencia, Barcelona, and a few other places on day trips (Segovia, Toledo, Santiago De Compostela).

No offense taken  . Yeah, it didn't sound quite right to me either but I wasn't quite sure how to phrase it. As drstein already explained what I meant was that I ordered from and online game store located in Spain  Still waiting, though, game should arrive next week. Can't wait!

Hey, Reckless! Glad to see a Runaways fellow. The first few trades are great, after that it gets a litte spotty, but still fun.

Thanks, fba287, this seems a very nice forum

And yes, drstein, I'm from the south of Spain but I live in Barcelona at the moment, so maybe we can meet some time and kick some villain's ass. I've been looking at the heroes and I think I gonna enjoy playing with Visionary, All that pesky mind control sounds really cool

Welcome to the forum/team/community/gang/club/group/posse/circle! Happy to have you here!

Hey, welcome!

I am Spanish too, and quite new to this forum (I think this is my third post). It seems that people is starting to know this game here...
(Well, "here", I live in Berlin, but you know what I mean..)

I got the game in December, but I had already been trying to find it for a couple of months. It was really hard for me to find. Of course, I moved to Berlin in September, and I speak very litle German, so it made the task harder. I also was busy with far less important things, like finding a job and doing all the paperwork in the world. At the end I also bought it online (in http://www.shop4de.com).

So far, every time I have shown this game to new players, they have loved it. Even people who are not into comics, or have no experience with this kind of card games. I don't want to hype it too much for you, but I am confident you won't be disappointed.

My only regret is that when I first ordered the game, I didn't order "rook city" and "infernal relics" at the same time (they were available in the same online shop I bought the core game). And now I am having problems finding them... The guys in shop4de have told me that they expect to restock in a couple of weeks, so fingers crossing and obsesive-compulsive checking of their web.

Ok, I have disgressed a lot! Have fun with the game when you get it!

(And arenson9, btw, how would you rephrase 'online spanish store' to make it sound more natural for a native English speaker? I am trying but I can't :( - And my English is supposed to be sooo much better that my German, so go figure! )

Happy to be here, evandan55 :D

Hey, Wendell, glad to hear you are having fun with the game, and better yet, that is going well with non comic fans :D I will tell you about my experience as soon as I can try the game, but yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like it a lot ;)

Hope you enjoy your time in Berlin.

I think this is less of an issue about native vs. non-native speakers and more of an issue of ambiguity of meaning.

Spanish can refer either to the Spanish language or to the country of Spain. So what does it mean for a store to be Spanish? Are we saying that the store is in Spain? That it serves a Spanish market? That it sells things that are Spanish? That it uses the Spanish language?

Since the phrase 'online Spanish store' does not have a comma between the two adjectives, it puts more emphasis on the 'Spanish store' than on the 'online store', connotating that the 'Spanish store' is more inseperable than the online store. This serves to emphasize the ambiguity as to what is meant by a 'Spanish store'.

Using a comma (online, Spanish store) or reversing the order (Spanish online store) would help deemphasize the ambiguity of what a 'Spanish store' is, but the ambiguity won't go away unless more words are used to specify what is meant.

ah… welcome to the English language… XD

For what it's worth, I interpreted it as "an online store based in Spain (and therefore probably all in Spanish)" :).

I thought that, since it was an "online spanish store" it sold online spanish.

No I didn't.

Well, not all games have been translated into Spanish; Sentinels is one of those....and we spaniards can't wait for the game to be translated so we buy it in English.

And to Victor...you got PM so we can discuss a SoTM meeting!! :)

Yeah, a little bit of the english language is not gonna keep me from playing this amazing game :P

Four days ago I wrote a review in the spanish equivalent of the BGG, a website called labsk, the spanish place of reference for boardgames, and it has already almost 700 views with a few people showing quite an interest in the game (one of them has decided to buy the game right away going just by my review), so it's all good :D My review is the first one in labsk for SotM and it baffles me how unknown the game is over here so I decided to do my little bit to get my fellow spaniards to know what awesome game they are missing.

PD: drstein, message received and answered. Let's meet and kick some villain asses!

It's unclear to me how well known Sentinels is anywhere. The general populace has heard of Monopoly. Most people who like board games have heard of Settlers of Catan. How many people, even amongst people who like board games, have heard of Sentinels?

Well, SotM position on BGG is 321 out of thousands of games, so that suggest is fairly known among the boardgame players community. Therein my surprise when I found the game is mostly unknown among spanish gamers, most of which peruse BGG on a frequent basis.

I guess the problem is that it is ALL in English! Not all Spanish players are as fluent with English as you are.

In any case it was great meeting you! We managed to save the world from Citizen Dawn (easily) and had a lot of trouble with The Ennead. I heard that the Apostate is preparing himself and will attack next week. Are you willing to come and help me defeat him?

I know that. What I mean is that there is not much knowledge about the game. When I thought about writting a review I did a search looking for information about the game in labsk (spanish equivalent of BGG) and there was only two threads out of thousands talking about SotM, and one of those two was just half related to the game.

There are many games that are all in english and get a fair representation in labsk. Mostly they are from big companies (FFG, WotC and such) so I guess that what really is hurting Sentinels is the fact that is the first effort of a small publisher. Although I recognize the language barrier doesn't help either.

It was great meeting you, too  Dawn, I'm surprised to say, was a piece of cake. Poor, poor thing xD  But The Ennead sure gave us a hard time. I enjoyed fighting against them, but I see how cumbersome  it can be dealing with a group of supervillains.

So the Apostate is planning to wreck some havock next week, you say?. Well, we surely can't allow it, can we? We'll have to put a stop to that
