Heroes of Metro City

About once a week now I check the tabletop section of Kickstarter, this week I ran across a new project for an expansion to a game called Heroes of Metro City. Anyone played it? It looks interesting from the videos I've found. The prototypes are missing art but I saw some sample cards on BGG. I'm tempted to back it, you can never have too many superhero games.

I found this somewhat interesting on a conceptual level, but until it gets art I doubt I'll care.  (And of course, I need money to care at all...right now I can't even afford to buy Vengeance.)

The designer is local to me, and I had a chance to see a prototype at a designer's meet up in town. I've definitely backed it.

I actually own the base game, but have yet to play it as a result of being out of town a LOT recently.

I've played Heroes of Metro City.  It has some great ideas, but some things I find to be poor implementations.  For example, the card Tactical Teleport shoots itself in the foot, making it less than useful.  (It keeps resource cards in your deck for one part and wants power cards in your deck for the second, making the first part bloat the deck so the second part is nigh useless)  I tried many games to get it to be useful, to no avail.  There are other cards that are just likely to have much better options.  And the fact that the villains and the other players are all fighting each other for cards means if the heroes don't plan things out in the beginning, they lose.   It's an alright game.  It just needs a bit more work IMO.

The art thing for the cards confused me since the pictures and videos on the Kickstarted don't show any but they have a big blank spot for it. I think the videos are just from the original prerelease of the game as there's pictures on the BGG page with decent looking art.

I'm a sucker for super hero games (in any medium) and the idea of building a hero makes similar to Sentinels but adds a deck building element while keeping it less abstract than Legendary that I can see playing all three depending on my mood. Decided to go ahead and back it, but I think I need to stay away from Kickstarter for a bit. Between Metro City, Oddball Aeronauts, and Zeppelin Attack my wallet's feeling abused.

Hmm. I totally was thinking of the wrong project when I posted earlier. Heroes Wanted is the game I was thinking of.

I looked at Heroes Wanted but didn't back it. The mechanics for matching a top and bottom to make a hero looks interesting, but it looked like you'd end up with some really odd mashups. Didn't really work for me with the theme.

Blue Kae – We're going to meet in person at Comic Carnival tomorrow, right? The designers of Heroes Wanted have regularly playtested it at Game Preserve Fashion Mall Commons at a monthly game designers meet up. It is quite good in my opinion. The part about joining the top and bottom is a bit of fun, but it's mostly about replayability, as you get a far wider range of heroes to play. Yes, from a theme perspective, and particuarly from a story perspective, it is much weaker. Heroes Wanted is nowhere near like the awesome story/theme of Sentinels of the Multiverse, BUT the gameplay itself is very cool – small group tactics with constant interesting choices about using resources now versus later, taking risks or not taking risks, scoring points in different ways, all while determining the best strategy against your particular adversaries and against this particular villain.

Backed Heroes of Metro City (the new kickstarter for it) but not Heroes Wanted, though I think I did hit the Remind Me button, in case I change my mind when they are close to ending.

We did! I had a great time today, just didn't get a chance to check the forums until now though.  After everything I've heard about Heroes Wanted, I'll have to take another look, possibly I was just in the wrong frame of mind when I checked it out.
