Horrid Cacophony deals damage?

One-shot
Destroy (H) hero ongoing cards.
Deal each non-villain target (H) minus 2 sonic damage.

Usually, a source is always associated with a damage being dealt, even for one-shots. However, Horrid Cacophony did not state the source of its damage dealt. Even Falling Statuary says “This card deals the target…”.

So, back to the question, what/who is the source of the damage written on Horrid Cacophony?

This may have some impact on the game.

My guess would either be damage is dealt by The Matriarch (as she is always guarenteed to be an available target), or the damage comes from nothing, like a good deal of environment cards from the core set. Though, in general, it appears that damage listed on villain cards tend to come from villain targets.

That’s always been my interpretation, that the damage comes from Matriarch.

I beg to differ on this. To my best knowledge, nearly all damage dealt by the core environments states “This card deals”, so it is clear who/what the source of the damage is. Sometimes, it is from a target, such as the T-rex. Sometimes, it is from a non-target, such as Volcanic Eruption.

The only exception I’m aware of is Kraken, which says “At the end of the environment turn, deal the non-environment target with the lowest hp 5 melee damage.” For Kraken, I believe it should say “this card” as well but was mistakenly left out. If it is indeed a typo, someone should quickly inform GtG to add that to the 2nd edition before sending for printing!

cough I think a little fairy may have gotten your message across.

All the cards were the damage comes from villain are things like punches, a gun being wielded by the villain, drugs coursing through their system etc; thematically the damage from Horrid Cacophony comes from all the birds making noise at the same time (and breaking the hero’s concentration, removing ongoings), this suggests a source other than the villain, I suspect the “This card” clause is missing from it.

Sorry to revive an old thread here...  Is errata in order?  It matters if Tachyon is in the game whether it should be "this card" or "The Matriarch".

The source is the Matriarch.  This was answered by Christopher here: https://greaterthangames.com/comment/9613#comment-9613 in a thread called 'What's dealing the damage?'

Thanks!  Sorry to have brought this up again.
