Imbued Vitality and WtM

Let's say Visonary plays WtM on an Equipment or Ongoing that just gained hp from Imbued Vitality. If Imbued Vitality leaves play first, and the card is no longer a target, what happens to WtM?

Since someone might ask: You might want to drop another Ongoing knowing that X will be destroyed next round, and you want to save a different card. Or an upcoming attack will deal damage based on the number of Ongoing cards, and you have some counter-attacks ready to bounce it back, or need the damage high enough so that certain DR cards can activate.

Wrest the Mind states that it is destroyed when the target leaves play. If imbued Vitality is destroyed, the card is no longer in play, but is still a target, so I'd rule that WTM stays in play. There's not a lot of point in playing WTM on Equipment or Ongoing cards though, since most of them don't do damage themselves. It is usually the heroes that are doing the damage, not their stuff.

I completely agree. It is more of a theoretical question than a practical one. I do see some very rare cases where someone might want to, e.g. if they need another Ongoing in play and there are no other valid targets for WtM.

I could have sworn I saw a ruling that went the other way, possibly in relation to Chrono-Ranger's bounties.

Wow thanks. Didn’t even think to search for WtM and bounties. Here is the official ruling (provided by Ronway):

I'm just saying what makes sense to me based on what the card says, and so it is possible that there was an official ruling saying otherwise. I think the discussion though was with Chrono's bounties on targets like Baron Blade and the Enead that flip when they're incapacitated.

Chrono-Ranger's Bounties was about if they counted as leaving play for the Ennead, The Operative, and even placing them on cards that gained HP from Imbued Vitality. The ruling was that if a card was a target and stops being a target for whatever reason the taret leaves play.

So Wrest the Mind would be destroyed once Imbued Vitality is destroyed.

I agree - when it stops being a target, the "target" part of it is considered to have left play, so WtM would be destroyed.
