Infected hero powers

Question: which of these is true:

  1. The additional powers that infected heroes get was printed on the “Filthy Vermin” side of Plague Rat’s card because that’s where there was room to put them, but heroes get those additional powers regardless of which side Plague Rat is on at the moment.

or

  1. The additional powers that infected heroes get is on the “Filthy Vermin” side of Plague Rat’s card because infected heroes only get those powers when Plague Rat has flipped to the “Filthy Vermin” side (meaning that when he’s on his original side, being infected confers no additional powers to heroes).

It’s #2 – that’s how Christopher played it.

Concur. #2 seems right to me.

#2 is definitely correct.

Follow-up question: When it says “Heroes have the following powers,” does it mean that ALL of their powers are replaced by that? Or is it that those powers are added to their list of powers? Because the first power – deal damage to the hero with the highest HP – would be mostly pointless, if they can just choose to use Galvanize or something instead.

I know that it CAN be beneficial, but it’s a villain card, so it’s not SUPPOSED to be beneficial.

It is incredibly useful for Mr. Fixer + Jackhandle. Yeah, I say it way too much, but it’s one of my favorite combination.

a copy-paste from the topic I made about the question:
(I know that it CAN be beneficial, like if they are hitting Absolute Zero or using the Jack Handle, but it’s a villain card, so it’s not SUPPOSED to be beneficial. I’m not arguing that you would NEVER use it, but rather that it seems like it’s not the intent of the card to just give heroes a free power that they only have to use if it helps them.)

Sometimes the heroes do things that hurt themselves because it there are other affects that are positive. Haka rampages. Bunker lets loose with the fire. Fanatic does it all the time.

The villains are like this, too. Plague Rat infects the heroes and that’s generally bad for the heroes, but not always.

What I meant to say is, it seems more like a villain strategy to give the heroes 2 new powers (of questionable value) and then remove all others. It would make sense, considering that he basically drives them insane.

Not that I’m arguing or anything – I have accepted the ruling – just trying to make my side make sense to you.

Has there been a ruling (as much as us mooks can ever rule on anything)? I don’t think we ever actually answered McBehrer’s question, which was if the powers stated on Plague Rat’s flipped side replace the hero’s powers, or if they’re just added to them, did we?

When playing with Chris during the core game release Indianapolis Demoes, he stated they were extra added powers, not powers to replace existing.

And that’s all I needed. Awesome.

Follow-up Question:

It pertains to the the extra power that does one hero 3 points toxic damage and gain 3 points hp.
If I make Legacy immune to Toxic Damage, does this mean when a hero hits him he loses no life and the heroes gain 3 HP?

I had this scenario once when hosting the game at a fundraiser my group was hosting. I wanted to make sure I didn’t play it wrong.

There is no condition that the damage actually be dealt to the initial target, or even at all, for the HP regain to take place. Given all the stuff in Plague Rat’s deck involving a hero attacking another hero or himself, it makes Mister Fixer + Jackhandle really good (assuming you can manage to get Jackhandle early enough in the game).

Yeah, unless it says “if you deal any damage this way,” then the 2 parts of the effect work regardless of whether it hit. Same with Throat Jab, Stun Bolt, Chastise, etc.
