I love when two heroes really, really work well together. What are your favorite pairings? I'm not talking two hero teams, but two heroes that paired up really boost the team and get wins.
Mine:
Omnitron-X and Unity: Obvious pairing, Omni puts bots in play, Stealth bot saves Omni's components, Omni can heal stealth bot. My favorite part of their duo is Hasty augmentation and defensive blast, and the sheer lack of cards Unity has that you don't want in play.
Visionary and Mr. Fixer: They don't have awesome combos like Unity/Omni but they have great synergy for a team. Vis has sustained ongoing destruction, Fixer has grease gun, Twist the Ether lets Fixer hit with riveting crane much more reliably, or on a villain can make sure driving mantis is most effective. A slow starting fixer can benefit from Vis base power, or he can team with dark vis to really shut down a villain (knowing exactly when to grease gun in a good thing). Mostly though Vis and Fixer set up your other two heroes so they don't have to worry about anything but laying down some pain. Another big bonus is Vis can bring back destroyed ongoing cards, and Fixer can bring back destroyed equipment, really helping the team when that is needed. Vis/Fixer/Expat/Bunker is a favorite team with my group, and it works really well.
Those are my favorite two pairings, and their win percentage in my games are ridiculous (Omni and Unity have only lost to Iron Legacy, Fixer/vis have beaten everyone advanced, with only a few losses)
Chrono-Ranger/Omni became invaluble in our last fight againt Iron Legacy. Since IL's superhuman redirection redirects any hit above 5 damage, CR put out the bounties that meant iron legacy took +1 damage and then the one that increased his own damage against IL. With a boost from ordinary Legacy, CR was dealing IL 4 damage with every card, so Omni-X just timeshifted his deck. Game lasted 3 rounds, ending in the heroes favour.
Scholar and AA are also a freakin wicked combo. Extremely ongoing heavy is their downfall, but lordy lord. Scholars Liquid Energy setups are so freaking damage potent and still provides enough effective health to be just as good a tank in Liquid Energy form as he is in Iron. In fact I would argue Scholar is a much better tank when he is dealing damage then when he turtles in Iron form. It is unreal just how good a deck Scholar has.
Scholar + TLT might even be a better combo as it is not as ongoing reliant. Plus the early card draws are invaluable. The sooner Scholar gets "Bring what you need", the sooner he goes into beast mode, and TLT is the best at doing this for him.
Visionary and Ra. Visionary plays Twist the Ether on the villain, while Ra uses Flesh of the Sungod. Now the villain will hit for fire damage and all heroes are immune.
Mr. Fixer and Absolute Zero/Bunker/Chrono-Ranger/Expatriette/Haka/Tempest/Wraith. Fixer with Driving Mantis and Dual Crowbars will be able to redirect a second instance of damage from Thermal Shockwave/Grenade Laucher/Danny-Boy/Assualt Rifle/Taiaha/Locallized Hurricane/Throwing Knives.
Wraith and NightMist. Between Infrared Eyepiece and Astral Premonition, you will always know what the villain and environment decks will be playing.
Legacy and Fanatic. Just Galvanize will increase Fanatic's base power to deal a total of 4 damage. Toss in Inspiring Presense, Fanatic now deals 6. Divine Focus will lead to 4 damage every turn.
Argent Adept and Unity, all the extra plays out of turn will allow Unity to get her bots setup more quickly with very little effort.
Legacy and NightMist, the both can shut down the villain deck from playing cards, that will be handy!
Tempest and Argent Adept, they can play Reclaim from the Deep and Vernal Sonata on their respective turns, allowing other heroes to constantly retrieve cards they want from the trash.
Argent Adept and Legacy, Argent becomes a total killing machine.
I really like Tempest/Scholar as well. Tempest has the heal, obviously only once per turn, but he also reduces big shots of damage and Reclaim from the deep and don't dismiss anything can let you play a card from your team mates discard every turn, and cycle Scholars healing and draw cards. With AA it just gets absurd, cycling Polyphoric flare, drawing/playing cards and powers. It actually just got too hard to keep track of what we were doing (and on who's turn). We had to damage Scholar with heroes because he was healing too much.
Honestly? It's amazing what they can do together with "Don't Dismiss Anything" or "Proverbs and Axioms" and The Adept's music texts. Between the two of them you can practically give your heroes whole rounds of actions. It's amazing. Between the two of them, some intense Tachyon damage, and Fixer/Haka tearing through him, we beat Spite last night without him flipping. It was quite intense.
I'd have to say that AA and Unity is a better combo than Omni/Unity. Two reasons. If AA gets out multiple instruments, it's entirely possible that he will make her play two or three golems a turn, in addition to Rhapsody of Vigor - every Stealth Bot's/Cryo Bot's best friend - Counterpoint Bulwark - also good friends with Stealth Bot, and Counterpoint's Accompany action of Unity drawing a card. Also, playing Vernal Sonata in your play phase, then Counterpoint (Accompany), followed by Alacritous Subdominant will bring any Bot (Bee or otherwise) back from the trash, all before it's Unity's turn.
AA is better for getting Unity's golemns in play, but I like Omnitron better, I love Hasty Augmentation Defensive blast, four shots of three damage to every non-hero target is just sick, and I especially love targetting Cryo bot with Gausian Coil blaster. Omnitron with a good build can trigger cryo, then heal him and stealth bot, and put a card into play from her deck. I find AA and Unity steamroll better, while Omni and Unity do better if things go wrong or start slow. I will grant Counterpoint Bulwark Stealth bot is just ridiculous. The real solution here is to play AA Omni and Unity together in a Golemns destroy everything match.
The real solution here is to play AA Omni and Unity together in a Golemns destroy everything match.
The scary part of this would be the post-game synopsis, I think. "So, for the second half of the game, I just skipped both my play and power phases, drawing three cards a turn, because I usually didn't have anything worth playing when my turn came around again." - Unity player.
Also, I agree on the slow-start Unity = good with Omni, and I'll have to try that Hasty Aug/Defensive Blast combo sometime. And I love that concept of Coil Beam/Innervation Ray on Cryo Bot!
Of course TLT makes everyone draw many cards. But the combo of AA using Alacritous Subdominant, Inventive Preparation and Telmon's Lyra lets all the rest of the heros get pumped real quick. Whether it be Unity, Legacy, Tempest to name some of my favorites to play with these 2 heros. Then AA can turn his abilities into a super engine using the Silver Shadow/Vernal Sonata combo.
Once you get setup and play Silver Shadow, AA lets 3 players play a card and then Vernal Sonata gets your Silver Shadow back out of the trash.
Had a fun combination of Team Leader Tachyon, Argent Adept and Unity.
TLT made sure everyone got the cards they needed, Unity pulled out Stealth bot and with Argent Adept playing Counterpoint Bulwark on the bot, pretty much no-one could be hit for a great deal of our game.
Haha I've had that exact combo too - TLT let us draw a whole load of cards, Adept spent most of the game letting Unity put our her bots (which she was getting hold of easily thanks to TLT), and Unity was playing whatever seemed useful while her army of bots just destroyed everything :D.
Robot Dance Party (Adept+Unity) is a great pairing. Even if you drop TLT, Unity can play her cards that let her draw cards, or skip to draw two when needed.
When Adept is set up so that you can let Unity play a card, draw a card and reduce damage taken by S. Bot by 1 it's largely game over.
Is there anything else in the game that gives on-demand DR besides AA's Bulwark? I know a lot of heroes can give themselves DR, but I don't recall any others than hand it out.
I'm surprised that Visionary + Tachyon to build Tachyon's trash pile hasn't been mentioned on this thread. It's not a game-over combo, but an early Lightning Barrage or three makes the table happy.
Setback's Surprising Fortune makes any massive-hand hero extremely happy. I had a recent game where Setback used that and Friendly FIre to feed a Scholar Solid to Liquid/ Mortal Form x3 combo, which was great fun.
