OK, so I just had a hard-fought battle I had to come and share about, with a question at the end!
I was taking on Spite in the Ruins of Atlantis, with Haka, DW Mr. Fixer, RC Wraith and Fanatic, and damn; he hit us like a train. By the time all 5 drugs were out, wraith was down and the rest were single digits. A couple of turns later, Haka was down too. I flailed for a few turns, made some poor decisions. Then it came together.
Let's take stock of what I was facing here. On his turn Spite is doing several small bits of damage on his turn, throws 2 cards in play back to our hands, and destroys environment cards (to do further damage). He also hits back when we attack, and something he's doing (I forget what) keeps dumping a bunch of cards from our decks into our trash. At this point, the two remaining heroes are both low enough on health that one more volley of attacks will end it.
I took a step back, looked at what I had, and came up with a plan.
One of Haka's incap abilities is to let someone else play a card, which I use to let Fixer throw down a style. On Fixer's turn I put out a tool... but do nothing else, no power, no draw. Next up is Wraith, who has an her incap abilities to put an equipment card from someone's trash into play. Thanks to Spite filling up our trash for us, I'm guaranteed to be able to throw out Fixer's Grease Gun (which is why Fixer wasn't drawing... once the trash is empty, this engine stops). As long as Grease Gun is in play, the only thing that can hurt us is Atlantis' Hallway Collapse. Everything else is blocked by Grease Gun, or is eaten up by Spite before it can take effect. When Spite is putting things back in our hand I let him throw the Style and Tool back in Fixer's hand, leaving the Grease Gun out for the rest of the villain turn, ready for everything to go out again next round; that's why Fixer wasn't using his power, as DW Fixer trashes equipment to do damage and we needed to leave things in play for Spite to go after instead of the Grease Gun.
This leaves Fanatic to do whatever she needs. I focused on whatever bits of healing she can pull out to help withstand Hallway Collapse, and whatever card draw I could get to grab to power Wraithful Retribution, with extra damage at the rear. WIth this setup I was able to chip away, kjeeping Spite and the environment (mostly) locked down while I pecked away to victory!
So; what are the most reliable, most elaborate, or most crazy "engines" you've been able to come up with? Are there any you've wanted to try, but never had the cards come up quite right to make it happen? Whether huge damage every turn, functional invicibility, or insane healing, let's hear it!
