Dear Americans: We apologize in advance for our cheering, and victory plans. Would you like to join us for a donut and a good quality beer?
If you're buying me Tim Horton's, I'm in.
Yeah, I know it's not the best. But I always want what I can't have.
My treat. It was a good game, and we want to thank you for playing.
I'll buy you a Timmy's when you come to your neighbour to the north.
Wait...wait...people on the forum for my favorite card game are also hockey fans?
I think the entire rest of my social life just collapsed.
Also, Canada, congrats on the win and the gold, that comeback was stunning. Looking forward to the semifinal between our mens' teams.
(Does anyone here follow the NHL or are we purely Olympic? :) )
First, thanks for the kind words we are looking forward to the game tomorrow.

Also. As a Montrealer, I must like Hockey. It's the law. Go Habs, and boo Leafs/Bruins.
EDIT: Please note i do not hate Torontonians or Bostonians, but since they are our hockey rivals, I must relish every moment they lose. Much love, UXM266
I got free tickets once to see the Sheffield Steelers, our local team. I had absolutely no idea what was going on for the majority of the game, having never seen it before. It was still quite fun though, but I was absolutely shocked to find out how much tickets cost.
@UXM: I understand, believe me. I relish every loss by the Los Angeles Kings even though two of our oldest family friends have loved them since the Gretzky era. (I'm a San Jose Sharks fan, the Mr. Fixer of the National Hockey League.)
@Silverleaf: I felt the same way at my first hockey games, it took several games and some helpful blog posts for me to start to get what the heck was really going on down there. (Beyond "keep the rubber thing from going in the net thing".)
@Balo: Torey Mitchell, the ex-San Jose Shark, went to my Highschool
@Silverleaf: Hockey tickets are crazy expensive here in eastern canada. especially in the big TO (Toronto). Still, to us, it's in our veins!
I can't help but think of hockey as as sport played by schoolgirls on grass with a hard ball and with no protective gear if you're not the goalkeeper (not even shin pads when I played, which is a bad idea with a bunch of wooden sticks attempting to hit a hard plastic ball right near your feet).
Ice seems way too fast, the play area's too small, the ball's not even a ball and you can't really see it, and the players keep having to be told to go and sit down for a rest. Field hockey's literally a different ballgame.
I was brought up in a family of soccer fans so I became a fan by osmosis, if you like. Haven't watched it in years though.
As a Pittsburgher I personally hate losing to Canada.
I couldn't stand the Pittsburghers after 2010 that were all "at least we lost to Sidney Crosby," screw that, I was so glad we booed him. You played good and were the better team. That is true.
I also could go off on a rant about the people who don't want their NHL players in the Olympics, or give some love to the Russian players who threatened to leave the NHL if they were barred from the Olympics, but this isn't the time.
Go USA. That is all.
I'v been known to attend a flyers game or two every year. Always fun.
I hear your IQ drops 5 points every time you cheer for the Flyers, any comments?
Phantaskippy, what part of Pittsburgh are you from? I grew up in Latrobe, not too far out of the city.
I'm in Cheswick, 20 minutes North of the City. Used to live in the city when my Wife and I both worked there, but moved out here with the kids.
I don't think Habs fans have any real beef with the Penguins. There's no dislike, no real animosity. SImialr feelings to them as Ottawa. But we like Crosby, because you know, Canadians fanboying over the dude who won us gold.
@Silverleaf: Well Hockey has players like Zdneo Chara. A 6'9" 255 lbs beast of a man from Trenci, Czechoslovakia. The man who is a nasty enforcer. Essentially his job is to fight, and hit. He's big, he's scary, and mean. Imagine him at top speeds on the ice..... *shiver*
There's the Flyers, and then there's a bunch of other teams that I can never quite remember what their names are, so perhaps you're correct. Go Flyers!
That guy or a jealous hormone-enraged teenage girl who hates the fact that you're smarter than her and that her boyfriend once laughed at one of your jokes? Tough choice. ![]()
A teenage girl once chipped a bone in my elbow with a tennis racquet, when I attempted to take back the ball she was refusing to give back to us, the only one we had. She thought it was funny keeping it. I didn't. Luckily she injured my non-dominant arm…
Did you go all Iron Legacy on her?
I refuse to answer on the grounds that it might incriminate me.
The last thing I need is the F6 on my ass.
