That's no gene-bound Maerynian. That's an Atlantean!
His shoulder has a coral reef structure on it. He is using a trident as a weapon. His squid-like head shape looks a lot like the carvings on the Atlantean Throne Room.
The plot thickens!
The sword PW Tempest has makes me think to Greek swords. When that Tempest uses his power the environment deals him damage. So at the least I would say that the Atlantean is not thrilled with Tempest walking away with their relic
Do the Atlanteans have a Greek sword relic?
Atlantis was said to exist by Plato, so it has a greek reference. Also, Tempest seems to be wearing sorta a toga deal.
Aquaman has a series called "Sword of Atlantis" and wields a sword called that. However, in Greek mythology I don't believe there are any swords of renown for Atlantis. Conan the Barbarian also has an Atlantean sword as well so it could be a reference towards that as well.
Dunno if I buy this one, the image in Atlantean throne room shows front facing tentacles on it’s head like an Illithid or Cthulhu, it also shows a Dragon/sea monster, which is unrelated but cool. The creature on PW Tempest’s incap has them on the back like a Maeynirian, however it lacks the word flipper ears that the other Maeynerians have, it also has less tentacles and darker pigmentation.
Anyway I think your Atlanteans might more resemble the statues on the backside of the Atlantis deck.

I think the coral structure on the shoulder plus trident is a pretty large hint.
Another interesting thing: The Shock Infantry in Voss' deck is the only other time we see a Maeynirian. That troop has similar head tenticle things, but also has an arm that looks like a Kracken's. Maybe there is some greater link to Maeynirian's and Atlanteans?
Related Note: Look at the Atlantean Front of Power in the environment deck. See that sculpture behind it? It looks like an eye with tenticles around it. Do we think there could be any similarity to that sculpture and the creatures seen on Prime Warden Argent Adepts incap art??
Crash-landing in the wilderness, only M’kk and a few others survived.
After helping hide the ship, M’kk volunteered to scout the area surrounding the crash site in hopes of finding food, shelter, and perhaps even sentient life. However, while searching the woods, the wounded ambassador was caught unprepared again as sirens approached from afar. Clearly, whatever was emitting those sounds could not be a welcoming party. As the blaring sirens grew closer to the wounded Maerynians, M’kk took a route far from the crash site, leaving a clear trail and drawing the pursuers away. M’kk was eventually apprehended by oddly dressed troops who declared themselves to be agents of the Federal Initiative to Limit Terrorism by Extraterrestrial Races. They detained their captive in a mobile prison and began the lengthy journey to the secretive F.I.L.T.E.R headquarters
There are other Maerynians on Earth than Tempest : the other few survivors. And we know nothing about them. While Tempest was away, they may have founded their own remote undersea base - or have taken residence in the ruins of Atlantis.
Maybe they also had an encounter with F.I.L.T.E.R. - deciding them to see humans as hostiles.
So, if Christopher decides so, it is always possible to have Maerynian villains showing up someday. Anyway, any super hero story sooner or later needs a "lost civilization" story :D
The coral may be a hint, but I’m kinda picking up what thesoundoftrees is putting down, maybe this being is one of tempest’s people and after escaping Voss he’s received the same treatment from F.I.L.T.E.R. and as a base the alien has chosen Atlantis and has appropriated a lot of their abandoned tech, the armor/trident/coral growth. Speaking of that armor and trident I love the Black Manta vive I’m getting.
Also from a design perspective it doesn’t make too much sense to have two races that look too similar because it can be confusing to a viewer/reader unless of course it a party of their origins like the Romulans and Vulcans, which this could be another example of that, which is also cool. I guess in a drawn out way I’m just trying to say he’s a Maeyrnian, or at least an evolutionary out cultural cousin.
Although I can totally see a slight resemblance between the eyeball monsters and the font of power.

Maybe ancient spacefaring Maerynians colonized Atlantis and then the evolutionary paths of Terran Maerynians and the ones that stayed on Vognild Prime diverged.
