I have a copy of the game on the way, and can’t wait to play it. I’m wondering if there are any rules/plans for PvP? I could see a game like this with one on one battles, team against team, even big melee brawls. There could be PvP environments.
I’m attracted to the idea that the game can be played the way that suits the group. Like Co-op? Got it. Like conflict? Hopefully getting it.
I don’t know if buying a game because of the many ways I can see the game being played, rather than the single way the game ships is smart, but I’m always thinking of expansion possibilities, and I may be wrong thinking that the inclusion of such things is obvious.

The core of the game is designed to be cooperative, so making it PvP is much much more difficult than you might think. Since there are already a ton of PvP games available, it is unlikely that we will make a PvP version of SotM. However, we do have tons of expansions in mind that will expand both the story of the game as well as the rules and replay-ability.
Well, let us see… in the upcoming expansion, each of the 4 villains and 2 heroes will have a mechanic wholly unlike any mechanic of any of the existing decks. In future expansions, we will also explore other interesting ways in which heroes, villains and environments can work.
That’s gonna get pretty wild if you guys are actually gonna have four expansions, totaling 20 villains, 20 environments, and 18 heroes. But so what you’re saying is the expansions will have rules different from the ones right now? Or will the gameplay be the same as now, in that it’s heroes vs. villains in villain, heroes, environment turn order? I can’t think of any ideas of how the game could be run differently, but I’m sure you guys can think of something. After all, that’s what you do, and you do it pretty well. I’m cool with the heroes vs. villains mode we’ve got now, and I’m assuming it will always be heroes vs. villains, but I’ll be really impressed if the expansions throw in some new game mode or mechanics. Do something with that whole “multiverse” concept you all have going on or something.
Oh, and just a minor thing, how are these expansions going to be packaged? Is it gonna be like the original box, but just smaller with different art? I’m just trying to plan on how I’m going to store all these cards.
I like the idea of, in a future expansion, there being a Danger Room environment that you could use without a villain so that the heroes could go at it against each other while the Danger Room livened up the fight.
Well you can effectively do that now with any of the environments. It’s just that the heroes aren’t balanced to go up against one another. For example, Legacy should not fight on his own.
The little thought I have put into pvp is that it will at least require two heroes on eachside, that will help a little bit with some heroes. The only way to know for sure if pvp works is to try it out and come up with rules yourself to figure it out.
Humorously I have did a pvp match with villians, Baron Blade Vs. Citizen Dawn. We played two matches and Baron Blade won both times, due to the 15 card limit rules. So… playing villians don’t really work out.
