Reach and Origin (and Vertex Attacks)

Does Reach increase the Origin of attacks? For instance, does Bunker's +3 Reach increase how far his Grenades can fire? I played a game with Adam during GenCon where we did this, but it seemed odd and wanted some quick clarification. From the rules, it only mentions that Reach effects die making range.

Also: Vertex Attacks: For Grenade Launcher, do you count hexes for the Origin then make the attack on one of the vertices of that hex or do you count vertices away from Bunker and make the attack on the vertex you end up on?

AS I understand it, and anyone please correct me if I am wrong:

For Vertexs, you cou t the number of hexes away from Bunker, then you choose a vertex on the hex chosen. Figures on the 3 hexs adjacent to that vertex will be hit.

For reach, it should only affect the die and not your actual range keeping in mind that the die result itself is unaffected. Meaning that if you roll a 1 with reach 3 against a target 4 spaces away, you still hit your target (1+3=4) but the die result itself is unchanged.

Reach does not increase Origin, nor does it increase Radius.

For vertices you count hexes, then a vertex of that hex.  It works like Omni-tron moving.

So Grenade Launcher with Artillery you would:

Count up to three hexes from Bunker, then pick your Vertex.

When you calculate range to the targets if your initial selected Hex was elevation 1, and a target on one of the other two Hexes was at elevation 4 they would count as being range 4-3=1.

If you counted Vertices it would be impossible to calculate range to the targets, esp. if the elevations for each hex was different.

Yeah thats what I had assumed. I knew both of those sounded funky.

All of this is correct.

Would "Reach" theoretically extend the range of Melee/non-Origin powers to beyond 6 hexes?  For example, +3 Reach allow for these powers to work up to a range of 9?

Yes, a regular attack like Razor Ordinance can target anyone in LoS, if they are at 7+ range you just won't have dice make range.  With Reach you can make range.  I've used an Aimed Omni-cannon with Bunker's reach+3 to nail someone at range 9.  They thought they were safe, puny mortal.  Aim is awesome there because you need one 6 and every non-auto miss turns into a 6 and makes range.

Everything Phanta said was correct. I didn't see anything about melee though so I'm going to clear that up in case there's any confusion. You have to be Adjacent for a melee attack. Reach does affect them, because they still have to make range when it comes to elevation and stuff, but it doesn't change the fact that you have to be adjacent to the target to do the attack.

Came here to ask this exact question.  Glad I'm not the only one who had trouble with reach.  One other question though.  Do multiple instances of reach stack?  If I remember correctly, Bunker has inate reach 3 and one of his power cards has reach 4.  Does that mean he has reach 7 when using that attack?

Reach is an additive effect. It does stack.

Yeah, that's why it's reach +2, not just reach 2. It ADDS 2 to your current reach, which is 0 by default.
