Broccoli sent me a long list of FAQ-type questions he’d recently received answers for from Chris so I can add some of the answers to my PDF. One of the answers confused me though:
Several cards have a “search” effect such as “search the trash” or
“search the deck”, and I assume these effects “fizzle” if the card
cannot be found in the appropriate pile. However, other cards have a
“reveal cards until” effect. Mostly recently, The Operative reveals
cards until an Underboss is found. Do “reveal cards until” effects
generate a shuffle if you reveal the whole deck without finding an
appropriate card? If no, then The Operative’s effect is useless once
all 5 Underbosses are dead, but if yes, then the forced shuffle nerfs
the Underbosses’ abilities to find Thugs.
[quote]Chris: Revealing cards does not force a shuffle, so you are correct in thinking that The Operative’s “reveal…â€Â
Because the reveal wordings say "Reveal cards from the villain deck . . . " not "Reveal cards from the villain deck and the villain trash . . . "
We’re just telling you to look through the deck. It’s different from the search, because you don’t pick whichever one you want - you get the first one you come to. And if you don’t find any in all your revealings? Then nothing happens.
Well, if you shuffle the trash into the deck, then you’re not revealing cards from the trash, you’re still revealing them from the deck.
So it sounds like you’re not moved by the argument that revealing a card is essentially the same thing as drawing a card, and if you’re told to draw a card when the deck is empty, then you automatically shuffle the trash to make a new deck so you can complete the draw.
But revealing is not the same as drawing, as drawing a card from the villian deck is then playing the card from the villain deck. In all current cases, only the specific cards mentioned are played, any unmentioned cards are shuffled back into the deck (at least I can’t recall anything else done with the unmentioned revealed cards). Thus, if you are to reveal cards but the mentioned cards to not appear, then the revealed cards are shuffled and replaced as the deck, no other cards are shuffled in with it.
Ehm… I think I’ve been killing myself, so question on “Reveal.” Let’s use Operative as the example since I just failed against her. Her ability says “Reveal cards until an underboss is revealed, then put it into play” or something like that. I’ve been revealing, and playing, any One Shots that come out that way thinking it was meant to be different than something like “Search the villain deck for the first underboss and put it into play.” So… I’m guessing the One Shots/etc. revealed by her ability don’t actually get played and instead just go into the trash?
Urshe the mummy reveals (H) cards and puts any trials found into play, then discards the remaining cards.
If Urshe reveals both Rod of Anubis and Shamise, it would put Shamise into play, and Shamise would activate, searching the deck and trash for the Rod.
The Rod is currently revealed, but not descarded, is it still considered part of the deck or is it in limbo between deck and trash and Shamise fails to put it in play?
