I’m asking this in general as I only have the original edition.
Specifically, what are the changes to Expatriette and Fixer? Any rewording for clarity?
If someone were to come up with a complete rundown of all the changes in the RC reprint, I could be convinced to add it to my Card List/EE Changes file...
I'm not entirely certain, but I don't think either of the RC heroes changed at all. Changes were made to The Matriarch for sure, and....I think one or two other decks but I don't recall which ones. Oh, Pike Industrial got a spelling error changed in a card title, but no substantive changes. Rook City (the environment) could have used some clarifications which it did not receive. They changed very little.
You are not certain, neither is anyone else. Things did change we just don't have an exact count on what. Hence this being the third time this topic has been created
Alright, I've compared the first printing heroes and environments with the new reprints. I'll do the villains tomorrow.
For the most part, all of the fonts are slightly different sizes. Some have larger text, some have smaller, but the reprints are easier to read all around. There are some minor changes to things like flavor text that I haven't fully explored, but I can go back and add them later if people care. For instance, the Tac Shotgun now has "REAL power" instead of just "REAL power." Also, all environment targets now have black HP totals instead of red.
Expatriette:
- Incap powers:
1. One hero may use a power now.
2. unchanged
3. "Hero's player uses" becomes "hero uses." Second sentence now reads "The next time that hero uses a power, that hero also deals 1 target 1 projectile damage."
- Shock Rounds: Each sentence is now its own paragraph. "All non-hero targets" becomes "Each non-hero target."
- Pride: Added "now" to the end of the power's last sentence. It now reads "If 'Prejudice' is in play, you may use its power now."
- Speed Loading: "Play an ammo card" becomes "Play 1 ammo card." Last sentence now reads "At the start of your turn, you may play 1 ammo card."
- Liquid Nitrogen Rounds: Each sentence is now its own paragraph, but the text is unchanged.
Mr. Fixer:
- Incap powers:
1. unchanged
2. One player may draw 1 card now.
3. unchanged
- Grease Monkey Fist: The first two sentences are now in the same paragraph. The text is unchanged.
- Dual Crowbars: The first sentence now reads "Whenever Mr. Fixer deals damage, he may deal that damage to 1 other target as well."
Pike Industrial:
Chemical Explosion:
- Typo fixed
- Each sentence is its own paragraph.
- "Deal all targets" becomes "Deal each target". The second sentence now reads "Deal each target X toxic damage, where X = the number of cards destroyed by this card plus 3."
Rook City:
- Scum and Villainy: The second sentence has been split into separate sentences for clarity. The second paragraph now reads "At the start of the environment turn, the villain character card deals each hero target [H] minus 1 melee damage. Then, destroy this card."
- Falling Statuary: "This card deals" becomes "deal." The first sentence now reads "When this card enters play, deal the target with the second lowest HP 3 irreducible projectile damage."
- Dr. Tremata: The word "one" becomes the numeral "1". The third sentence now reads "Put 1 on the top of the environment deck and 1 on the bottom." (Note that Tony Taurus is unchanged, and uses "one" instead of "1".)
Toxic Sludge:
- "This card deals" becomes "deal". The first sentence now reads "At the end of the environment turn, deal each target with at least 5 HP 2 toxic damage, then deal each target with at least 10 HP 3 toxic damage."
- The second sentence has been split into separate sentences for clarity. The second paragraph now reads "At the start of the environment turn, each player may discard 1 card. Any player that does may destroy 1 environment card."
I'm uncertain whether replacing "this card deals" with "deal" is a change for the better. I have no real opinion about the other changes, apart from Checmical, which I kinda miss for its idiosyncracy (the same way I miss having an Underground Lake on the third floor in Betrayal at House on the Hill).
The card is still the source of the damage, so it's just a shorter way to get stuff on the cards, I guess. Since it's not a target there's not much opportunity for shenanigans anyway.
The change to Toxic Sludge is very good, though, because it's not particularly clear on the first printing that each discard kills an environment card. At first glance I thought it worked like Pervasive Red Dust or Hostage Situation, but with a choice of targets.
Speaking of Pervasive Red Dust, if they do a new base set issue at some point, I think they should break the last paragraph into two, to make it more clear that getting back Equipment when PRD is destroyed is not dependent on destroying it with its own text, but occurs regardless of how it is destroyed. Clumping the text together creates the semblance of a relationship; it would be nice to clear that up.
YES! My play group always trys to make the house wrap around the front for the sake of shear silliness.
It's very cool when the flavor matches up really well, but it's much funnier when it fails in bizzare ways.
I wonder if I should run a BAHOTH game on this forum sometime.
Yes, is the answer to that question :P
I just wanted to thank JimmytheRat before his painstaking work gets buried! There are more changes than I was expecting.
Exactly the sort of list we were missing, awesome work man
Technically, the Environment is the source when the card is not a target and it just says "Deal…", not the card. Just a technicality. ![]()
Villains are done! I also noticed that all of my RC reprints are slightly lighter than the originals. It's hard to notice unless there's a card with a lot of area of a single color like Ravage or the Operative, though.
The Chairman:
- The Chairman, Master of the Underworld: Removed a stray comma from his setup instructions.
The Matriarch:
- The Matriarch, Her Avian Majesty: Added "Whenever a fowl card is played from the villain deck, play the top card of the villain deck."
- The Matriarch, Ruler of the Flock: Added "Whenever a fowl card is played from the villain deck, play the top card of the villain deck." In the first sentence, fowl is no longer in quotes.
- All fowl cards: The above text has been removed from all fowl cards. The rest of their text is unchanged.
- Darken the Sky: The art has been fixed.
- Muninn: The first two sentences have been combined into one paragraph. The text is unchanged.
- Horrid Cacophony: "Deal" becomes "The Matriarch deals." The second sentence now reads "The Matriarch deals each non-villain target [H] minus 2 sonic damage."
Plague Rat:
- Plague Rat, Filthy Vermin: The first two sentences have been combined into a single paragraph. In the second sentence, "At the start of the villain turn" becomes "Then." It now reads "Then, if any active heroes are not Infected, flip Plague Rat's villain character cards."
- Sewer Fiend: The second and third sentences have been combined into a single paragraph. Their text is unchanged.
Spite:
- Good Samaritan: The first two sentences have been combined into a single paragraph. The text is unchanged.
- Lab Raid: Each sentence is now its own paragraph. The text is unchanged.
- Innocent Bystander: In the first sentence, "a hero turn" becomes "each hero turn." The second sentence is now part of the first paragraph.
- PL626 Compound XI: Typo fixed. It is no longer "PL62 6".
- Potential Sidekick: The third and fourth sentences are now their own separate paragraphs. The text is unchanged.
- "Mynd-Phyre": In the second sentence, "by this card" becomes "this way." It now reads "Spite deals each hero target X psychic damage, where X = the number of environment cards destroyed this way."
- Lost Child: In the second sentence, "from Spite" is removed, and the comma is removed. It now reads "If they take damage this way put this card under the Safe House card." (Not sure why they removed the comma, since it was correct originally and its current wording has no separation of the dependent clause.)
I'm not sure that technicality is actually relevant, though. If you redirect Toxic Sludge's damage into a Bee Bot, you can still prevent the rest of its damage by destroying the Sludge mid-action. So it may not be the source, but it's still the cause.
Spiff, would you have any interest in adding JimmyTheRat's information to your document which details changes between original SOTM and the Enhanced Edition? Just a suggestion (not the kind Visionary plays), you are of course free to ignore it.
While I'm on the subject, would Arkham Horror interest anyone?
All of those changes have been wiki'd.
If anyone has time and ability to do the same for infernal relics, just put them up and I'll wiki them
Yep, I'd be happy to. While I'm at it, I'll add a section for the errataed cards that came out in Dec.
I can go through the IR cards as well, but I suspect there will be a lot fewer changes.
