Not sure if anyone else is following this, but SotM has been steadily moving up the Thematic Ranks on BGG. It recently moved up to 17!

Well, SotM went back to 17 on the thematic ranks, but it is up to 102 on the overall rankings!!! It might be one of the top 100 games of all time!!!
wow, it was 105 just some days ago. Relative big jump there. I guess it could be related to the cons as of late and more people are playing it + ranking it (+ liking it)
I'll be honest. Yes, it's super cool that people are rating it well. But I don't pay a lick of attention to the BGG rankings. I own many, many games that I love and get lots of play, and most of them aren't in the top 200. Most of the games ranked in the top 100 have failed to interest me. I've long since come to terms with the fact that the games on BGG are rated by people with different tastes than myself.
That being said, SotM (and the expansions) is my only 10.
I agree. It is just like movies, you have to find a reviewer who has the same tastes as you. With me, it goes a step further. There are a lot of games I like that are rated highly, but they just don't get to the table. To me, what gets to the table and how often is much more important than actual ratings (either mine or BGGs). However, what gets to the table is often based on the group, not the ratings. I would rather buy a game that I "just" like and always play, than a game that I "love", but gathers dust on the shelf.
i do think it is a good judge of how popular the game is, and that is great for GtG.

EDIT: I might get shot for saying this, but SotM is not my favorite game. Still rated highly, but not my absolutely favorite game.
