SotM: The Video Game Promo Unlock Spoilers and Theories (SPOILERS)

All I can say is that this has been a total success. First the game came out and reminded how great the base game is SotM is. Now with the unlockable cards it has created a fun Easter egg hunt atmosphere. I can't wait for the expansions and more unlockable cards. Way to go guys!

This has me thinking that maybe a defeat of Baron Blade was also needed for Bomber Blade.   In that case though, I imagine most folks would have taken him out while trying to get Young Legacy.

This is potentially a game-changing bit of information for me. While most everyone else seems to have moved on to cracking Omnitron, I'm still stuck trying to get Mad Bomber Blade to unlock. If the requirements are spread out across multiple games, that could very well be my problem. I haven't really ever spent much time with the original Blade, mostly while I was still figuring out the rules of the game. I doubt I've even beaten him more than a small handful of times. It could very well be that something has to be done there before the Citizen Dawn part can be triggered.

EDIT: That was it. I must have played a dozen games against Dawn yesterday without getting anywhere. So I went up against Baron Blade first to see if that made a difference. My next fight against Citizen Dawn unlocked the card.

Glad to hear it. So it appears that after the 1.1 update you do have to defeat Baron Blade and Omnitron before attempting the more specific portion on the others bosses.

So, the game remembers past games? And knows who you've beaten and with which heroes? If that's the case, do the conditions have to be consecutive?

Maybe, but possibly not. I haven't played a game against Baron Blade since before the first patch was released, so maybe before that it the game wasn't tracking whether or not he'd been defeated. That could be why most everyone else could unlock the card while it wasn't working for me.

Welcome to the forums FoldedDice!

Thanks! I signed up to see if I could find some help getting the cards unlocked. Now that I'm here, I supposed I'll stick around.

Since the game is digital now, it opens the door for discussion on fixes and suggestions. But as always, the video game teaches things we thought we knew about rulings, so whether you own the physical copy or not, you should definitely stick around. Good to have you on board :)

I couldn't agree with this more. My love of the game has caused me to love the app which increased my love of the game ad infinitum. I thought I would enjoy finding the unlocks on my own but I enjoyed participating in the group effort much more. That being said, I do dream of being the first to unlock a promo in the next round. Hopefully Elemental Wrath AZ.

Thanks to the fourms for the helpful ideas on Omnitron. Beating him first solved my issues and the promo card was my last unlock.

The irony for me is that I had beaten Omnitron many times before. But when I heard the updated 1.1 version would address memory issues, I deleted my game to make sure to have a "clean" install. Hence all my previous defeats of Omnitron disappeared.

I will cast a vote in favor of the unlock puzzles to get the promos. I had fun trying to solve them and in exchanging ideas on how to get all of them unlocked. I am not the world's most patient person so I only solved two of them on my own. But had fun working on the others and then figuring out a good plan to accomplish the goal once they were known. So, for example, I learned what I was supposed to do to unlock Baron, but sorting out the best way to execute on that goal took a few games.

Can not wait for the expansions.

Just to confirm, you do not need to defeat Blade in the game immediately prior to fighting Dawn and getting BST out in the same round in order to unlock MB Blade.  I just tested this and fought Omnitron first, then fought Dawn.  When I wiped BST, Blade unlocked.

Admittedly, I did defeat Blade a couple of games earlier, but it doesn't need to be one then the other.

I do have a clean iPad in the house that I haven't played on since the upgrade and I'll probably use that to test some of the edge cases (it's an iPad 2, so I didn't really use it for SotM due to the crashes - this'll let me test if the reduced memory really helps or not).

We've heard from a few people that it plays much better on the iPad 2 now. Let us know how that goes!

Also, great work everyone on figuring things out. It happened much faster than we thought, so we'll have to be more evil next time.. ;)

I can confirm that the game is much more stable on my iPad 2. I've still had the occasional crash, but they've been very infrequent since the update.

I'm not saying defeat Blade then go after BST but that at some point you needed to defeat him prior to taking out BST.   I just think this may have been overlooked since I'm sure a lot of folks at least took down Blade unlocking Young Legacy

I dunno. I would have taken quite a while to get these if the solutions hadn't been posted online for me to cheat from! (Turns out my desire to have the promos was stronger than my desire to figure then out by myself!)

Well, after banging my head against the game for hours yesterday trying to get Mad Bomber Blade to unlock, I was pleasantly surprised to get Cosmic Omni on my first try. Of course, I found out ahead of time what needed to be done, so I can't give myself that much credit. Still, I my strategy for taking out both ships turned out to be very effective. I did the fight in Megalopolis with Absolute Zero, Haka, Bunker, and Tempest. Both ships were almost all the way at the bottom of the deck, so it turned out to be a fairly lengthy battle. I'll go though each character's role in detail, in case someone might find the information useful.

Absolute Zero - Not much to say here. He helped to soften the first invasion wave while the other heroes were still setting up and soaked up quite a bit of damage. Probably could have been someone different.

Haka - One half of my victory strategy. He did the bulk of minion-killing during the early game. Once I had Savage Mana and a sizable attack wave I had him use Rampage to put most of Voss's forces on lockdown. His health got dangerously low at one point, but a timely Haka of Restoration kept him going until the end. When both ships finally showed up, he took out the first one with Savage Mana (also discarding his entire hand to Haka of Battle, just for fun), hitting for 39 points.

Bunker - The second ship killer. He had a bad draw for the first several rounds, so he didn't contribute much to the fight until the very end. I eventually got him into Recharge Mode with his Heavy Plating in play, which negated most of the damage that came his way. He spent the rest of the fight quietly charging his Omni Cannon, in order to take out the second ship with a 44 point blast.

Tempest - He did a bit of healing and damage-dealing early on, But his main job was to become incapacitated. After that, I used his damage immunity ability to help keep the rest of the team alive while I waited for Voss's fleet to show up.

That's what I like about Wraith's Infrared Eyepieces.  Couple both with the Utility Belt and you've got really good villain deck control.

Carlos

Yes, and that's exactly what I did when I unlocked the Blade promo. For Omnitron, I decided that it would be better to take a slower approach so that Haka and Bunker would have time to build up the damage required to finish them both off in one shot. Still, using Wraith in place of Absolute Zero probably would have been a good choice. I could have just waited until I was ready before starting to dig through the deck.

Confirmed. I did the same thing. I beat Omnitron in Insula Primalis, then fought Voss in IP. Killed both ships in the same round. Ss tachyon was in both fights.
