So, I had an interesting scenario come up in a three player game against Spite. Spite got out the drug that bounces H-2 equipment cards back to their players’ hands.
Then, Mr. Fixer played his Grease Gun. Ordinarily, this gives the heroes one turn of respite. Non-heroes can’t deal damage, but the card is destroyed at the beginning of Fixer’s next turn.
But, with Spite’s card out, we were able to bounce it back to Fixer’s hand each turn. We had the effect of the Grease Gun every turn. Sure Fixer didn’t do much else, but it allowed the other two heroes to essentially just wail on Spite. Sort of a strange occurrence.
Well, the moment that Grease Gun goes back into your hand, non-heroes are able to deal damage again. Thus, his retaliatory damage will still occur, as well as if his damage dealing drug card was played after his bouncing drug card, that damage will still get through. It will however keep you safe from most environments as well as the damage he deals from the villain character card.
Yep. His bouncy drug was the second to last drug that got played, so we were able to avoid much of the onslaught. Fixer was also the second of the three heroes, so that first hero (Wraith) ended up taking a beating each turn.
But I thought it was interesting that, in that particular case, the villain’s drug actually helped the heroes. We would have been in a lot more trouble without it.
I thought exactly the same the first time I played this combo.
However, it is merely a case of wishful thinking on the part of the Heroes. It is actually quite clear how this works.
The “bouncy drug” clearly reads that it takes effect at the START of the villan turn, so if you wish to return Grease Gun to your hand with it, it is a legal play, however at that point the Grease Gun is out of play and Spite still has his full turn to deal damage with impunity.
On a related note, my wife and I love to play Tachyon against Spite. Tachyon gets to play Pushing the Limits every turn to draw an additional card. And it still allows her to play another card as normal. It really takes away the sting of that particular drug.
