I was playing advanced Ennead at the Tomb of Anubis vs Legacy, Tempest, Unity, and Omnitron-X. Set was incapacitated, and at the start of the villain turn, everyone had to play the top card of their deck.
Legacy drew a Takedown. Villain cards could no longer be played. At the start of his turn, the card would be destroyed, and at the end of his turn, the member of the Ennead with the highest HP would deal him 2 energy damage. But since the card would be destroyed at the start of his turn, it wouldn't be around at the end of his turn for him to take damage, right?
If so, there's a perfect lockdown set up with Legacy, Visionary, and Omnitron-X. Legacy gets a copy of Takedown into his trash. Visionary then uses Mental Divergence to move it to the top of Legacy's deck. Omnitron-X uses Timeshift to put the top card of Legacy's deck into play. The villain can't play cards, and then Takedown is destroyed at the start of Legacy's turn without Legacy taking any damage. Cycle repeats.
It's not perfect, and villains like Skinwalker Gloomweaver who play cards when it isn't the villain turn would still have some opportunity to play, but it would shut down a lot of the nastier villains like the Matriarch, the Ennead, or Iron Legacy.
Yeah, Take Down only results in damage to Legacy if it's in play at the specified time (ie, the end of Legacy's turn). That sounds like a pretty epic set-up if you can manage it :D.
It's nice, certainly, but it doesn't abuse the play-outside-your-turn aspect nearly as much as Unity's Bots or various "do something awesome and immediately end your turn" cards (NM's Mist-Fueled Recovery, Scholar's Know When to Hold Fast, and Fanatic's Prayer of Desperation come to mind). Also you can do this with just two heroes, Legacy and the Argent Adept - Vernal Sonata to bring back Take Down for up to four turns running, and two different songs for playing it out of turn.
You can have some fun with something like the Scholar and the Adept, if the latter lets the former play DDA, which lets someone else do something big (Unload, for example), and once that's all done you're still in the Adept's Power phase so can do a bunch more stuff. Yay for the do-loads-of-stuff heroes :D.
One of the best games we had a few weeks ago was TLT, the Adept, and Unity, in that order. TLT let everyone draw loads of things, so I (as the Adept) got a load of stuff to set up in play and Unity had a handful of bots. I had Inventive Preparation in play within a turn or two, along with an instrument which could activate its Accompany text. As a result I was letting Unity play at least one bot on my turn, every round. I can't remember who we were fighting (Dawn, possibly), but whomever it was, they didn't last long >:).
