So, the kickstarter has updated again, giving us a glimpse of the newest villain, a young Vanessa Long, a.k.a. The Dreamer.
So, what are your thoughts? I think it's interesting. She only has 6 hp, and you have to beat her projections rather than herself. Perhaps if she takes damage you lose? I'm intrigued.
Yes, my guess is that if you actually kill her you will lose... at least on this side. Im pretty excited to how this villain works. This expansion is really turning out to be quite exciting.
If you consider that she IS The Visionnary it make sense to protect her and not get her killed by the environnement and his own deck. Could be a very nice kind of game and a sure change of pace.
"The heroes must work together to defeat the terrible projections, but without harming the young girl whose mind is creating them! This is not just another villain to defeat, but one to save from herself! Are you up to the challenge?"
Yeah, she's pretty complicated. I think we've done the most work in playtesting trying to work out how she'll function best. She's getting there; just a little more work is needed, if I recall correctly. But I LOVE her concept. When I first heard about her being a villain, I was so excited. She's really interesting and I just think this villain concept is brilliant.
It would make sense that the The Dreamer is immune to environment damage, wouldn't it? After all, she's in a coma, presumably in a hospital bed somewhere, not in the thick of the fighting. In fiction when something like this occurs, the heroes always learn early on who is responsible for these terrible manifestations, and the tension comes from finding a way to stop the summoner from inflicting horrible damage on the surrounding populace without hurting the summoner him- or herself.
Here's an ugly thought: What if the strain of her powers damages her, the way The Visionary burned out a part of her brain when she hurled herself back through time? Mechanically, some of her projections or ongoings attack The Dreamer herself, rather than the heroes, but forcing the heroes to lose nonetheless when The Dreamer runs out of HP.
If the heroes can’t hurt her, then the nemesis icon is useless. Maybe some playtester can shed some light on how the nemesis icon will come into effect?
As a playtester, I can honestly say the nemesis icon does not work to your advantage at all, really. The most it does is make you have to be really careful while playing against her as Visionary.
Axe beat me to the punch, but yeah; it just makes it more dangerous to actually play as Visionary. No advantage on your side, sadly.
I get the feeling that some of her Distortion cards (which she's bound to have, since that's her entire method of attack) will have the Nemesis icon as well, since they're just extensions of her mind. Anubis and the Ennead opened the door for that.
Yeah, as soon as we got this villain, my friends and I said "Tempest is NOT invited to this party."
Though it was pretty hilarious when we thought of a scenario where whoever played Bunker charged up Omnicannon and didn't realize he wasn't supposed to attack the villain character card and accidentally blasted The Dreamer. Awkward situation there, I'd say.
What if Dreamer weren't immune to environment or any other kind of damage, but heroes had the option of taking those hits for her? It would make for an interesting fight if you let Haka do his Rampage to get rid of a swarm of projections, but you had to have a hero take not only the normal Rampage damage but also step up and take Lil' Visionary's portion of it too.
"I'll save you, Lil' Visionary!", cried Legacy as he stepped between her and the rampaging wild man.
Visionary’s decoy projection has the distortion keyword. I wonder if the distortion keyword will reappear in the Dreamer. The fight in realm of discord will be interesting if so.
