The Freedom Five arrived yesterday!!!

Pixel Lincoln arrived yesterday on my doorstep, and I wanted to share what I found in the box.

How is pixel lincoln? Worth the 40 bucks?

I have been thinking that since I came across it about 3 weeks ago. Picking up Boss Monster for 25 bucks was a no brainer and it turned out awesome, but I am just not as sure about this one. Though it might be worth it just to try and pick up the extras while there is still an option to buy them from the website.

I actually haven't played it yet. I had a barbershop function that went late into the night right after work, so I only stayed up long enough to look at the cards and pull out the Freedom Five.

The build quality is a lot higher than I was expecting, and I'll be playing a couple games tonight with my wife.

(In between cutting out the playtesting files, I promise I'll get that done really soon!)

Edit: Jul 29th

I completely forgot to reply with how my game of Pixel Lincoln went.

One of the things I noticed was that the special characters like the Freedom Five didn't change how the game played very much.  If you collected their requested symbols they gave you points, but they didn't feel any different from the generic special characters or from the Tom Vassel card.

As for the gameplay, it was nice having two levels out at a time.  You could pick which level you wanted to work your way through and if one level got too hard, you could switch tracks and play through the other level instead.

The best game mechanic that Pixel Lincoln has is that you can save cards in your hand instead of discarding your whole hand at the end of your turn. This allowed for some epic turns where luck wouldn't have given you the right combination of cards. I wish that games like Dominion would let you do that, because there is probably nothing as frustrating as getting 7 coins for three turns in a row.  That is never going to be enough to buy a Province!

As for if the game is worth it at $45, I think it is a good game. I would have been happier if it had been priced more towards $30.  As a Kickstarter, we got other items along with it to make it a better deal, but it does feel a little pricey if you wanted to buy the game now.  If you can find a copy to rent, that is a good way to find out if you have been missing out on your daily dose of Pixel Lincolns.
