I first picked up Sentinels with the Infernal Relics KS. As a result, I have always had access to at least 15 heroes and I simply don't know the base set heroes as well as I should. One of the things I love about the SotM Video Game is being (temporarily) limited to the first 10 heroes so I get to learn their decks as well as I should.
I've been using Ameena's Sporcle quizzes to test my knowledge on the names of cards. Today, I was having trouble remembering the name of Wraith's card that heals you for 3 HP. I could picture the art and knew I had something to do with suturing. I finally came up with the name and was thinking about it:
Was it called "Suture Self" as a reference to old RPGs where many spells/powers had different versions for self and other? Was it a reminder that it only works on Wraith? After about 20 seconds of thinking about it, I finally realized it's a play on "suit yourself". I felt so dumb for not realizing this earlier that obviously my first reaction was to come to the boards and make public my secret shame.
I'm more inclined to believe that Wraith being sort of an homage to Batman-type characters, is a reflection of The Dark Knight when Alfred walks in on Bruce trying to suture his own arm after being bitten by a big dog.
People are still playing my quizzes? Cool :D. I've been thinking on occasion that I should probably go back and do the rest of them (I think I got part way through the Rook City villiains before, and that was when that and Infernal Relics were the only expansions currently available) but then forget about it again. But maybe I'll get round to it someday - the fact that someone has been playing them might be the motivation for me to do so ;).
To me, it seems that "Suture Self" is kind of an awkward card name when "Suture" would have done the job just fine. I could even make an argument for "Suture Wound". I may be overthinking it, but I still feel that it's an intentional play on words.
It was totally intentional. Last time I met Christopher while he was teaching the game, one of the player's made a comment on it and Christopher responded towards it. It has been well over a year so I can't make exact quotes anymore, but I know it did occur.
