Thematic victories

A google plus game I was in yesterday had an interesting result.

We were facing the Matriarch, and in the last turn before she was defeated she played a darken the skies bringing back all her dead birds. The Naturalist finished off the Matriarch and destroyed the mask freeing all the birds from her control without killing them. We all agreed this was a pretty perfect victory for the Naturalist. He got to save the world and defend the helpless animals forced into the conflict.

Does anyone else have stories like this? I don't mean the obvious hero got the final blow on their nemesis.

I enjoyed that game. ;)

Wow, that sounds like a perfect victory for the Naturalist :D. It'd be even better if he could take some kind of avian form and was in it when he finished off Lilian :D.

Having Haka spew a minion-heavy villain's minions back at them tends to be pretty satisfying - villains like Voss and the Chairman. "Oh yeah? You like to send all your guys after me? Well here, have them back! SPLURRRGGGGHHHHHH!!" :D.

I had one awesome fight, with Haka, ExPat, Ra, and someone else (I don't remember exactly, but their incap let them destroy environment cards, I think; this was before Infernal Relics, I think) VS. Plague Rat in Insula Primalis. At a certain point in the game, Plague Rat was still at 65 HP, Haka was down to 1, and everyone else was incapped. I still won.

As it turns out, Mere + 3 dominions + 2 extra powers per round + a free environment destruction each round is a pretty good way to build up your hand size. It turned into what I imagined to be a down-to-the-wire, no-holds-barred beatdown between Haka and Plague Rat. No one else there (conscious, anyway), nothing getting in the way; just an extremely pissed off Maori in Barbarian Rage mode and a giant rat man beating the crap out of each other. Each round it went something like:

Plage rat plays a card, deals damage. Deals a little more damage at end of turn.

Ra's turn: Haka punches Plague Rat. Draw a card.

Expat's turn: Haka punches Plague Rat. Draw a card.

???'s turn: destroy an environment card. Draw 3 cards.

Haka's turn: play elbow smash, rampage, or Haka of Restoration; punch Plague Rat; draw a card. draw a card.

Environment happens. Not very relevant.

Repeat.

It was an awesome turnaround, and still one of my favorite victories.

Oh, and then there was one game where Dawn played "Channel The Eclipse" with her damage buffed by 3. While she had 5 HP.

"Will my powers kill me? Certainly. But they will surely kill YOU fir-" DED.

I think you may mean Channel the Eclipse there - Return with the Dawn is the one that brings Citizens back to life at the end of her turn. Channel the Eclipse is the play-an-extra-card-but-later-hit-yourself one :). Anyway, somehow it's just more satisfying when the villain screws themselves up and finishes the job (or at least does most of the work) themselves >:).

Any time that the Police Backup or The Kraken take out the bad guy is awesome.

Haha yeah, or the T-Rex - I think we had Apostate go that way once :). I think he got taken out by the inhabitants of the Final Wasteland too once, when Unforgiving Wasteland was out >:).

I'm not sure if it was the killing blow but it was certainly close:  The other day in SotM: VG against Dawn, only Dawn and one other citizen were in play. Wraith had Throwing Knives in play with Micro-Targeting Computer and Dawn was down to less than 10 HP. I only had two targets so I threw the last one at Tachyon who redirected it at Dawn with Synaptic Interruption. It was the classic "You missed"..."Did I?"

Damn, you’re right. Fixed it.

Had a game end today where Akash gut shoved out into space by Setback bumbling around as usual. Mechanically, Setback used wrong place and time to redirect Oxygen Leak's damage at Akash. So, Mother Nature was defeated by being sucked into the vacuum of space while trying to invade Mars.

Completely unnecessary as we could have had Oxygen Leak hit Akash first for enough to kill her, but that way was much more fun. ;)

Had a game earlier where Ambuscade was defeated by one of his own sonic mines through the magic of redirection.

I love Mr. Fixer vs. Ambuscade, those mines are like free candy.

The other day three of us were playing against Gloomweaver.  Our team was Mr. Fixer, Unity and Fanatic.  But the real awesome was when we picked to fight Gloomweaver in Rook City.  Turn 2 we drew Tony Taurus, and our we rapidly realized that he was instrumental to burying Gloomweaver's relics at the bottom of the deck, thus ensuring our victory.  Tony Taurus won us that game, and Fanatic spent almost the entire game protecting him with her special protection power that hurt her.  It was essentially what happens when a Call of Cthulhu game crosses over with superheroes.  We even began to ship Tony and Fanatic together in a very unresolved sexual tension fashion.  Taurus reliably kept all relics out of play.  And we finished when Fanatic, with ONE HIT POINT, triggered her ability that did as much damage to the enemy as she had damage on her.  So she nuked the evil shadow god back to its realm with the power of her faith.  It was beautiful.

That is an awesome match.  I've used Chastise on Taurus before, but not that well.

It always feels good to beat Voss when is Mistbound. It's just too perfect.

Citizen Dawn is on two HP, she merges with the sun.

Ra glares at her.

Couldn't help but add "Honey, you might use some of the powers of the Sun, but I am The God."

Awesome!

Omnitron down to 6 hps or so, but there's a huge pile of drones and an electro-pulse explosive fully capable of killing all the heroes and whatnot so I can't just whale into it. Hunkering down under a meteor storm for safety, and an Oxygen Leak comes out with 11 cards in the environment trash

In my head, Bunker just blasted a hole in the window and vented everything into space.

How did the Oxygen Leak do anything when the Meteor Storm was making everyone immune to damage?
