You guys forgot the most important thing to do, you guys. If you're gonna volunteer, you have to remember the golden rule.
Look good. Tuxedos are ideal.

Linen Tuxedo shirt, steampunk vest, bowler, timey-wimey googles, check
Then you'll do great.
Okay -- first event in 5 hours. Did an intra-company interview this morning, and am dressed for it. Game face is 3, 2, 1...
I'd like to take a moment to thank everyone again for the good advice. Silverleaf, I took cheat sheets and removed the analogs and replaced them with very brief character descriptions. So Bunker is "The Walking Tank", Tach is "The Speedster Scientist", etc.
I also made very crude playmats - deliberately keeping them look like non-professional work - using manila folders. I have sketched out a place for the deck, hero, trash, the in play cards, and the cards in hand. In the corner, I included the order of a hero turn. Its just sharpie on folder, but should help some people out.
And keep the back side of the rule book out to point at during the process/description of the process. (Can't believe I didn't think of that sooner...)
Good luck!
Event Repot:
In summary - it went well. I had 14 folk who pre-regged for the my 3 events, and one walk-on. Of those, 1 was a regular player of the game, about 6 had played it once or twice. Three were people I've known by being in the area since 1987.
The cheap folder placemats worked well. I heard a second-hand account of someone talking about them. That is to say, my friend told me about overhearing a conversation about the "the guy in steampunk" teaching SotM with placemats to help people along.
I met a playtester at U-Con, who's online name I didn't quite catch in the din of the space, who showed me the Vengence characters. Now I'm both more excited about the expansion, and sadder that I haven't either pre-ordered it or become a playtester.
Thank you all for the wise advice. It helped, greatly.
Cool. Pictures?
Sadly no. I didn't think to take any, and none of me are on the convention's website.
U-Con repeats in a month or so, and I've agreed to host three events for SotM, again. This year, I'm moving a little bit away from teaching the game by having one session be "Iron Sentinels of the Multiverse", with a quick blurb about the session (8:00 p.m. on a Saturday) is intended for regular players of the game who can't find anyone else who wants to play Iron Legacy or Enead Advanced. I'm hoping that it will make for a tough end for a cool con. I've thus started playing Adv IL and getting my backside kicked. So it goes.
To help the players along, I'd make sure to have a couple "suggested or possible" teams. I'll look through the "Strongest and most versatile Team" thread for ideas.
Anyone in MI, or going to U-Con?
Asking the question of which team would be best against advanced Iron Legacy or against advanced Ennead would be different then against an unspecified villain.
BTW, please start separate threads for those if you discuss it.
These are incredibly helpful for me when introducing new players to the game! Will you be updating for the Heroes added from Vengeance and now Wrath of the Cosmos?
