Please only discuss unlocking Scholar of the Infinite in this thread.
I suspect you unlock The Scholar of the Infinite by having The Scholar put on proper clothes.
Says the man with no pants.
Possibly have all three forms put at once and discard for all of them? Haven't tried it yet but it seems a likely Scholar unlock.
Well, it's not that. Or finish the game with the Scholar at full health.
It's 6:38 AM. Am I wearing pants? Who can say?
Maybe it's get incapped while all three elemental cards are out. I haven't been able to get that yet, but wioth his incap artwork, I feel like it's a possibility
I tried this, and it did not work. It was in Pike vs Ambuscade
It's not having his entire deck in his hand, either. Tried to then get all copies of his elementals into play, but stupidly had gone up against Omnitron, so I gave up after a Flechettes.
The answer is not
Baron Blade
Insula Primalis (however it is spelt)
against greatest legacy (promo) SS Tach Ardent and Scholar
killing blow turn loose his entire deck minus 1
Thoery beat Gloomweaver and Baron Blade with Scholar and Visionary
There have been at least two unlocks now. Here's the link to the first screenshot, and my own is posted in response: https://twitter.com/esaka_jiro/status/667862847641161728
I went with the same line-up, environment, and villain as the first person did, for consistency. Scholar, Nightmist, Haka, Ra, and Argent Adept vs. regular Gloomweaver in Realm of Discord. The flavor for Scholar of the Infinite describes him as a gateway between reality and the void, which might indicate Realm of Discord is important. From his screenshot and his comment that the unlock came after the end of match, Gloomweaver's turn must have just started and triggered a relic victory. Second screenshot was also an end-of-game unlock, but otherwise did things a bit differently---brought Gloomweaver to 0 health during an incapped Scholar's turn, letting Haka use a power to fire a Savage Mana. (Even with the other screenshot showing it wasn't necessary, it seemed like a very flavor-y way to do it.) Since the Scholar of the Infinite text indicates says he "cannot protect himself," him being incapped is probably a necessary part of the unlock. I also had two other heroes incapped, so even though there's flavor about Scholar protecting his allies, it seems like you don't need to keep everyone else alive.
So my current guess---beat Gloomweaver in Realm of Discord while Scholar is incapped. Method of winning and whose turn it is don't seem to be important so far. As for what cards are otherwise in play---looks like neither of us had any pins or Ophidian in play, so that could be relevant again, but it's hard to say from two examples whether any particular cards need to be absent or present. Obviously, Scholar himself was incapped, so nothing of his was in play, for whatever that's worth.
I just bear He with a team of tachyon unity scholar dark vis and tempest.Scholar incapped but had played all three elemental and truth seeker.Scholar incapped by sucker punch. No villain targets in play.No unlock
Something else is required, HeroComplex. I took the same team against Gloomy in Realm. Incpped the Scholar with NightMist just befoer she killed Gloomy. No unlock. No one except Scholar incapped.
Did you use Alchemical Redirection at all, as that would fulfill the proteting others while unable to protect himself clause?
Villain : Gloomweaver
location : Realm of Discord
Team : SS Tachyon Unity Scholar Tempest Dark Visionary
Scholar incapped by Gw by Alchemical Redirection
Normal victory One Pin in play
No Unlock
Unlocked:
Advanced Gloomweaver in Realm of Discord
Team: Visionary, Scholar, Redeemer Fanatic, Legacy
Gloomweaver was killed by Absolution on Scholar's incapped turn.
Over the course of the game Scholar had: all three forms in play at once, played alchemical redirection, played Know When to Hold Fast, played Don't Dismiss Anything, played Proverbs and Axioms. (Incapped himself using energy damage from Mortal Form to Energy.)
I definitely get the flavor of Alchemical Redirection, but I don't think I ever played it. I had 2 each of the Liquid and Energy elementals for a while---folks like Argent Adept letting me play Know When to Hold Fast on other player's turns made the discards pretty doable---and I think I had Flesh Into Iron in play for just one turn after it was pulled by Don't Dismiss Anything. I let Flesh Into Iron expire because at that point I was ready to let him get Incapped, so I did have all three in play at one point (really, five total), but not right when he got flipped. Pretty sure the incap came from a use of Haka's Taiaha---sent right at him, not redirected. I also don't believe I ever used Expect the Worst or Get Out of the Way in that game, for whatever those are worth, but I'm pretty sure everything also saw play. May have played Grace Under Fire once, not sure, and definitely played Know When to Turn Loose to self-damage for 12 when I was ready to get incapped.
Edit: By the way, in my unlock, Gloomweaver had just played Drum of Despair, which was the only relic of his I'd seen all game. Since I was about to kill him with Savage Mana, I didn't bother with it. So a Gloom relic in play should not prevent the unlock, and there were none in his discard for me---presumably all three for the other guy.
Ok. It's not Gloomy in Realms (I think those are important components, though) vs Scholar, AZ and Dark Visionary. Scholar had all three forms out at one point, but didn't sustain them all which might be important. Scholar incapped. Relic victory. Did not play anything except the forms, Bring What You Need and Keep Moving all game. Died to villain damage.
Did not unlock.
what cards from the environment when the unlock happens, it may be the factor we need
Got the unlock:
GW in Realm: we assume this is important
Vis, AA, Scholar, NM, and Haka (oddly fun team comp, slow to get going, but crazy fun synergy)
Played all forms, Alchemical Redirection, and several draw cards.
Scholar died to Haka's Taihia empowered by Haka of Battle with 1 liquid, 1 iron, and 3 energy out. Redirection was out at time of "death."
GW died to Vis auto damage card before Scholar used an incap power (plan was to use incap ability to win)
In summary I think it's:
GW in realm; Scholar incapped after using Redirection; fight on to victory.
Forms might be needed, but I think that might be just making things more complicated than it has to be.
