Ways to Deliver a Whuppin'

Sometimes a villain just has to go down.  What team do you use for each in revenge games?

Akash - Argent, Fanatic, Haka, The Scholar - Argent and Fanatic take care of enviornments, while Haka and Scholar deal with limbs.  If it goes long and something goes wrong, you want the Scholar all set up to tank the game to victory.  Fanatic tossing limbs early can be huge.

Ambuscade - TL Tachyon, Parse, Chrono Ranger, Knyfe - hit hard and focus fire.  Tachyon gives cards to the big guns.

Apostate - Parse, Young Legacy, Ra, SS Tachyon - This has enough damage to eat through the early trouble.  SS Tachyon can whittle down anything with really fast, big hits, while this game ends up being about ignoring relics for a timely Sucker Punch to finish things off.

Baron Blade - Visionary, Wraith, Tempest, Haka - Hit fast and keep the wrong cards out of play/have a way to mess with his discard pile.

Bomber Blade - TL Tachyon, Wraith, Tempest, Ra - Hit hard early, stop him from playing the wrong card or dealing damage with Tahcyon and Wraith, destroy ongoings, and if all else fails, kill Tempest and you win.

La Capitan - unsure yet!

The Chairman - Visionary, Mr. Fixer, Nightmist, Haka - This team solves most problems. Visionary can throw out the Chairman's discard pile.  Nightmist can redirect damage really constantly, especially with Vis' help and Haka can eat the nastier problems.  Fixer? He just solves whatever other issues you happen to have.

Citizen Dawn - Visionary, Wraith, Captain Cosmic, The Naturalist - Visionary and Wraith kill ongoings and control when you see a Devestating Aurora.  Cosmic ignores an Aurora that gets through, and Naturalist... well, he hits stuff as a Croc mostly, but I like that he recovers his stuff fast and has the option to tank.

Deadline - unsure yet!

The Dreamer - Visionary, Parse, Mr. Fixer, Haka - just handle problems, kill stuff, and be patient.  Argent fits really well here, too.

The Ennead - Parse, Wraith, Tempest, Ra - Try to control how many Ennead you see, damage them all at once or have the option to focus fire HARD.

Gloomweaver - Unsure yet!

Voss - Wraith, Visionary, Omnitron-X, Ra - Since he won't destroy your stuff, you might as well take advantage.  His damage is predictable enough for Omnitron, while Ra's fire immunity can be huge.  Wraith and Visionary ensure the timing of Forced Deployments is to your favor.

Infinitor - Tempest, Visionary, AG Legacy, Nightmist - Lock his deck up, hit everyone thing you need, and whittle away.

Iron Legacy - Parse, TL Tachyon, Fanatic, Tempest - All ongoing hate and two alpha strikes to make him dead. If you're in trouble, kill Tempest and be immune to melee.  Parse can be replaced with Nightmist.

Kaagra - Legacy, SS Tachyon, Haka, Sky Skraper - lots of 4 damage, lots more multi-hit. The crowd loves it.

Kismet - unsure yet!

The Matriarch - Legacy, TL Tachyon, Wraith, Tempest - 4- ways to stop the psychic damage and plenty more to just punch Lillian to death.

Omnitron - Parse, Haka, Ra, Fanatic - Damage boosts, ongoing hate... this shouldn't require a special team.

Cosmitron - Wraith, Legacy, Ra, Haka - A bit of damage boosting for the early game, a bit of immunity from late for Legacy.  Wraith slows down some cards that can really hurt.  Ra and Haka kill things.

Plague Rat - Visionary, Tempest, Fixer, Sentinels - Tempest heals, Fixer redirects badness to villains, Sentinels with a signature turn infection to healing, and Visionary makes sure the worng person isn't infected and gets folks the cards they need.

Progeny - unsure for now.

Spite - If waiting him out - TL Tachyon, Scholar, Nightmist, Absolute Zero - Get Scholar and A/Z optimum builds with Tachyon who is set up for a Barrage upon flip.  Nightmist should have a million cards at her disposal, too.

If not waiting - Parse, Omnitron-X, Wraith, Chrono Ranger - Smash face.  These guys set up fast.  Parse and Wraith help to avoid bad drugs while still bringing the pain.  Omnitron gets the right plating and the right components and he should be safe to beat down.  Chono just makes a lot of damage happen, including some out of turn.

Thoughts? What are your teams?

Legacy, Team Leader Tachyon, Dark Visionary, Wraith, and Tempest. Against... pretty much anyone. Solid damage, both single-target and group, solid ongoing control, solid deck manipulation, solid damage prevention. You could come up with a better team for specific situations, sure, but if you were all "Okay, you get one team and you have to face every villain, on advanced challenge mode" that's what I would take, no questions asked.

OmnitronX can time shift Gloomweaver's relics directly into the trash--Greatest Legacy and Argent Aepdt can speed up that process.

might as well add knyfe rogue agent to do the same from the bottom of the deck

We've had the discussion about best general team elsewhere, but I'm failing to resist the urge to jump into it again here because you've put TLT on a team and then not given her the teammates that make the most of extra card draw. I'm not saying your team is bad. It looks great. But TLT w/ NightMist, Scholar, Haka? Stupendous. O-X and Chronoranger are great choices, too, because of their extra card plays.

That's a very fair point. I'd probably swap out Wraith or Tempest and put Argent Adept in there, so EVERYBODY can get the benefit of extra plays.

Specific matchup recommendations? For La Capitan: Sentinels and Super-Scientific Tachyon. It's almost embarassing. If you really want to get absurd, throw in, like, Grandpa Legacy and Prime Warden Fanatic and Argent Adept, or anyone who can reliably churn more powers into SST, and throw all those experiments at the Sentinels. Each one has very high odds of being two damaging one-shots, each of which gets boosted by nemesis damage if you throw them straight to the dome, and you need almost no set-up for it to work. Which is nice against her piles of card destruction.

My favorite game against Voss is to have promo Expat and 4 other characters that can boost her damage (Vis, Legacy, AA, Ra), then dig for Hairtrigger Reflexes. Talk about not having to worry about Forced Deployment!

BeHimself - Interestingly, that teal misses some of the most powerful individual heroes to me, Nightmist and Scholar. Heck, that Legaacy, to me, is only second best to the Grandpa Legacy who gets Nightmist yet more cards or Scholar yet more healing for damage.  Wraith is great, but I don't always want to bring her along if the villain has too much ongoing... and I conciously avoided teams of five because it makes the game a bit too simple.

ReverendPete: That's both mean and hilarious. I will do that later.

RE: SST and Sentinels - I thought someone did the math and Legacy and Tachyon herself had the best odds.  Did I miss something?

That Voss idea is great.  I really plan to try it. It should work even better on Infinitor!

the math you referred to only covered video game released content. If I'm not mistaken around 85% of the sentinels cards are one shots that leaves a good average especially if you can tutor the signatures in play to get them out of the deck.

When we want a nice and easy game we tend to take Legacy, Ra, and someone else random (I suppose Jim would be a good choice here) in Insula Primalis. All of the damage! :D

I already calculated all of the odds for Super-Scientific Tachyon getting a match for released heroes. Here they are with WotC added in:

Sentinels    66%
Tachyon    65%
Legacy    60%
Nightmist    53%
Setback    53%
Wraith    51%
Scholar    50%
Guise    50%
Naturalist    49%
Expat    49%
Parse    49%
Visionary    47%
Tempest    47%
Fanatic    46%
KNYFE    45%
Haka    44%
Ra    44%
Chrono-Ranger    43%
Captain Cosmic    42%
Sky-Scraper    42%
Bunker    41%
Absolute Zero    40%
Argent Adept    37%
Omnitron-X    34%
Fixer    32%
Unity    32%

Just tried Sentinels and SS Tachyon vs  LA Capitan with Legacy and Expat. Rocked it, but I think a bit more ongoing hate would make the game run more smoothly...

So, Legacy, SS Tachyon, Fanatic or Tempest...

I also utterly crushed Plague Rat with Omni-x, Chrono Ranger and Golem Unity.  I used Eternal  Haka, too, but he managed zero damage and 20 cards in hand.  Golem plus Omni-X is a bit silly.

If I'm particularly annoyed at a minion-heavy villain, Team Leader Tachyon will help Haka get Savage Mana out, and he will eat. All. The. Minions.

And never let them go, just keep them out of the way.

The most powerful (from my own statistics) three hero team I've used is Greatest Legacy, Tempest, Scholar because they allow you to weaponize healing very effectively and let Scholar focus on getting cards in his hand on his turn without slowing down the healing or the damage, I can only imagine what would happen if TL Tachyon and the Sentinels were added to the mix.

I like Setback, Scholar, and Argent Adept.

They weaponize heals, give cards to the Scholar so he can get 2 Mortal Form to Energy and 1 Solid to Liquid, and give extra actions.  Argent Adept can get Cash Out back for Setback, who can risk into it, triggering Mortal Form to Energy twice for 3 damage.  Scholar can cause Setback and Argent Adept to get extra power uses and card plays (or get Cash Out back out again!).  They have good ongoing destruction from AA and Setback.  And once Setback gets Wrong Time and Place, he usually has a ton of tokens and can help beat down the baddies.

That's pretty nasty, though I don't think Setback would be my fourth.  I'd probably use Wraith.  I love Wraith. Damage, Control and tons of draw.

Or maybe Vis/Parse.  Still ongoing control but some villain deck control too.

I forgot.  Setback also can play Turn of Events to give Scholar and AA another power action.
