I think it will be fun to start listing what the perceived “best” hero assemblies would be. I think it would be fair to even in other threads break this out to villain specific line ups.
For me I find that the best all around hero is Tempest or The Wraith.
Both have crowd control elements, big spot removal, some damage mitigation/healing, and do not start at the top or bottom of the HP tree.
Tempest plus side is the ability to heal the group might put him over Wraith based upon that card alone.
The Wraith can really dish out the damage and gets to eventually set up multiple powers per turn that can help to manipulate the villain deck.
These two also seem to be able to pull it all together with less specific cards needed to be able to be a productive member of the super team.
Other heroes seem to need specific cards to be useful or can pull dead cards that are much more narrow in use.
We’ve discussed elsewhere that what really works best is a combination of different types of heroes that can supplement each other, but putting that aside for a moment …
I played a game with The Wraith on a team against Dawn when the infrared eye piece was stuck near the bottom of her deck and Devastating Aurora came out a couple of times. I played another game set on the Mars base where the red dust wiped out her equipment a couple of times. The Wraith, being reliant on her equipment, can take time to be very effective and is more vulnerable than most to losing her abilities. That being said, I generally agree with you that The Wraith is quite versatile and powerful. She’ll make it on to most teams I choose by virtue of the infrared eye piece alone. Most of the rest of what she does is gravy.
I also agree that Tempest is very effective, and in fact agree that he is perhaps the best solo character, though a bit vulnerable to villains with minions that have damage resistance since his base attack does only one damage.
The Hero I always want to have on my team, though, is Legacy. Galvanize, Motivational Charge, Inspiring Presence, and the Legacy Ring – the Holy Quartenary!
I love tempest, he’s so versatile, he’s my favorite hero…
however, I dont think hes the most powerful.
That spot goes to Visionary, IMO. Visionary might not dish out the damage like other heroes can, but she can shut down villians easier than anyone else. Suggestion is an amazingly powerful card, as is brain burn. Mental divergence too, and wrest the mind are super crazy good. Though I’ve not actually recorded anything, I’m willing to bet she has the highest win ratio out of any hero for me.
In our first game against Voss, Visionary saved everyone’s bacon when she pulled out TWO back-to-back Forced Deployment cards and sent them to the bottom of the deck.
Hi, first time poster here and i must say i’m really digging this game. That said, having read over all the heroes (and i think they are all cool) the only one i ever use is Legacy as he suits my style the most (I’m a big superman fan and feel he captures his essence the best). Also his play style is really enjoyable to me with the whole lead from the front and support the team style of play.
So with that, Legacy is my best (and my only) hero.
Between me and my friends and brother we each picked one hero to “main” so i usually end up with Absolute Zero and Tempest on my team for the most part but Ra finds his way on there from time to time as well.
Tachyon is my favorite hero. I love blazing through my deck (playing and drawing so many cards actually feels like superspeed) and unleashing powerful lightspeed barrages. The only problem is that she is very squishy and tends to get low on health very quickly. She’s a fast and furious, high risk-reward style character which is my preferred playstyle in most card games.
Recently though, I’ve been playing Absolute Zero a lot more and he is quickly becoming my second favorite (Sorry Ra).
If we were to throw Rook City into the mix then Expatriette would probably be my second favorite, pushing Absolute Zero down to third place.
My personal favorite hero so far is Bunker. Sometimes he takes a bit to get going, but I love some of his weapons, especially the Grenade Launcher. I remember one game where I had the Launcher and an Ammo Drop and someone else was playing Tempest, against Warlord Voss. Minions come out, minions go down, I draw 4 cards.
Side note:
We have someone who always claims Legacy. However, she’s focused on doing nothing but using his Galvanize power (“I play him because I can be lazy and not do anything.”), even though he’s got a LOT more going for him than that. She barely even looks at the rest of his cards … she thought his Charge card (Power: Deal 2 damage, everybody regains 1 HP) was a one-shot.
Tempest is my probably my favorite. I like being able to strike more than one enemy at a time, allowing minions to be handled a lot easier. He also has a quite a few one-shots that allow him to do spiffy things and Lightning slash is one super scary card. Gene-Bound Shackles comes in handy since it increases his damage on the villian character which is always nice. This him armor that allows him to change the type of damage he does and also reduces damage dealt to him of that type by one. Not to mention he can also heal the group which will always come in handy.
Likewise – I often play whomever I haven’t played most recently. Tonight I played with brother-in-law-in-law and realized that there were two heroes he’d not yet seen, so found myself playing Tachyon and Visionary.
(Tachyon, btw, got out all three light speed barrages for a total of 39 damage.)
