Hello, everyone! I'm new to this game and I'm loving it, as are all the people I'm introducing it to!
One of the things that draws me to certain games is being able to imagine what happened during a turn, and this game is tightly themed enough that I find it to be very satisfying in that regard, but I have run into one card combination that stands out as something that I'm having trouble explaining, and I was wondering what happens in other peoples' heads to justify it... Why do discarded bursts help Tachyon do damage, and what's happening when they get discarded?
Ideas I've got so far:
1) Extra "burst" of acceleration that adds to her current velocity, which I like, but it might only make sense if she doesn't change direction, which I feel like she'd kind of have to in order to accomplish all that she does (or maybe not?).
2) She's warming up either physically or mentally.
3) She's dosing herself with a "burst" of stimulant.
4) She's getting hit with a "burst" of blood-lust.
Consider it as stored energy. Like rubbing your socks on a shag carpet then zapping a friend. SHe's using speed and friction and stroing up more enrgy for a pwoerful hit!
I kind of think of her as constantly building momentum. She does little bits of damage here and there, maybe destroys some of the area she's in or disrupts the villain, but it is all part of her larger plan. She's preparing for her one strike, or two, that will completely change the momentum of the battle.
On a similar note, I've been thinking of Absolute Zero's mechanics and it got me wondering...
how much of what he does with the suit was an intended feature when it was built? I mean, obviously it was built for some combat since they wanted Frost to be a superhero, but do you think he's supposed to weild it as recklessly as he does? It's easy to see why he'd be pretty resentful about how they made him join, and his tragic past can't be helping his attitude either. I get the impression Ryan Frost is often sort of "exploiting" the devices to just get this over with faster, heedless of whatever damage he's causing to them. If nothing else, it's pretty funny to imagine it like this.
Tachyon: "What are you doing!? That was just for regulating your temperature! You aren't supposed to DELIBERATELY overheat it!"
Yeah, I always assumed the "burst" word just meant she was getting faster and faster, which obviously means she could transfer more energy with each punch. It's a really cool concept. As the battle goes on, she's just getting faster.
This is exactly how I imagine AZ in action, he's obstinate enough to do things only the way he wants to and doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would spend a great deal of time flicking through the user manual.
