I was considering making a "Villain Analogues" thread to match the Hero one in Rules And Gameplay, but decided that my analyses of the villains aren't nearly as snappy as the Hero ones, so people would either be bored by explanations of how Fright Train is clearly The Juggernaut, or confused by why I equate The Chairman with Baron Strucker.
Or maybe just confused about who Baron Strucker even is.
But I had to post just one of these analyses, the one nearest and dearest to my heart, which I suspect not everyone sees the way I do.
La Capitan, you see, is an analogue to my favorite super-villain of all time: Carmen Sandiego.
No, think about it: she’s a badass hispanic thief, you spend a goodly portion of the game chasing after her rather than fighting her directly, and she has a collection of colorful named henchmen with their own skills and backgrounds. And La Paradoja Magnifica manages to cover all of her vehicle needs by being both a flying machine and a time machine! Throw in elbow-length brown hair combined with a signature coat and broad-brimmed hat, and it becomes a lock.
(Good luck getting Rockapella out of your heard for the rest of today, by the way.)
Sure, they are both villains who use time travel and oppose a team of four fantastic family members. But do they have literally anything else in common?
Kang:
From the future.
Is an authoritarian ruler.
Motivated by personal tragedy.
Battles using an array of machines and countermeasures, with few if any human servants.
La Capitan:
From the past.
Is a countercultural rebel.
Motivated by excitement and greed.
Battles using a team of colorful allies, with minimal reliance on their advanced technology.
I... really don't see it. If anything, you could make a case for any given Legion Of Superheroes villain, like Emerald Empress.
Not really; I figure that's enough. Cappy is pretty much "an authoritarian ruler" over her crew though; I don't see anything about her being a "countercultural rebel". And all of her colorful allies are using advanced technology.
She sails around on a ship with a small crew, stealing things. Kang has a civilization. Ruling over a dozen or so people doesn't really seem similar to me (and her crew are "like-minded" according to her bio, so I think even that small handful all follow her willingly).
