I'm likely posting this far too early, but I just found out the dates for Who's Yer Con 2013 as March 15 - 17. I'll likely try to set up some SOTM demo events, as well maybe arenson9, Rabit, imprimis5, and maybe any other veteren in the area might wish to set up some demoes as well. Also, I figure if I post this now, it will be less likely that it will just sneek up on any of us (like it did last year where no one I knew really knew about it until after the first day was over).
Yeah ... that's too far ahead for me to plan. I might want to wait until January for that.
I figured it's far too early to make plans. I mainly wanted to put this down so that I and others wouldn't forget about it (I've actually been trying to find the dates for about a month now).
Assuming I can get the days off, I'd be down. Who's to say where I'll be by March, though.
I think it would be great if we could coordinate and make the Sentinels of the Multiverse presence constant. Who knows, maybe we could
even have a booth set up.
Update:
If I can make it to Who's Yer Con 2013 at all, it will be in a limited capacity, as I'll be out of town most of the following week for PAX East.
There's no way the >G folks can make it to Who's Yer Con 2013, again because of PAX East the next week. I therefore see no reason to pursue getting a booth. That being said, I spoke to Bill at Arsenal about the prospect of combining forces with the Arsenal booth. Perhaps they could have a booth big enough to run a single game. Long shot, but not out of the question. If nothing else, Bill's probably happy to stock up on the games in the hopes that we send buyers to the Arsenal booth.
If there isn't a demo going on at the booth, or if we want a presence outside of dealer room hours, or if we want both, there's a choice of having a specific table (tables?!) set aside for us, or just claiming a table in the free-play area.
I think our first question should probably be: Do we have enough people interested in running games to have a constant prescence? If not, what should we aim for?
The con appears to run from noon on Fri Mar 15 to 3pm on Sun Mar 17. Who would want to run games at what times?
I may try to attend this year, just looked at the map and it's really close to where I live. Probably only about 10 minutes or less from where I live. Though I'll probably only go on Saturday and Sunday, since Gamer's Guild is on Fridays.
I'm planning to attend this year, and would definitely be up for running games.
I'm looking to book a room (even though I live roughly 6 miles away), so I'll definately be looking at having a presence there. I would have been at the entire thing last year had I heard about it prior to the night of the Friday it started. I would like something better than simply free table space, I'm just uncertain the planning that would need to be involved in order to obtain such.
Obtaining a dedicated table should be pretty easy -- I've met a person who's involved (first name is Peter) who said he could make it happen.
Is someone else willing to organize? To make sure we get the table? To coordinate who is going to be there when?
I've got enough on my plate, that I'd rather not do this as well.
Looks like I'm definitely going to be able to attend, so I can organize.
I know a Peter Anderson who's fairly involved with the Who's Yer Gamers, I assume it's the same person. I think I already have it, but could you send me his contact information?
I don't have it! I've run into Peter at many gaming events, including a friend's house. That being said, I just found him on Facebook and sent him a message asking for his contact info, so I'll PM it to you if and when I get it.
I'm pretty sure I have his email and BGG username.
Steve, how's the planning going for this?
I just learned that IndyCon is also March 8-10 and I have an email in to a contact there to find out if they'd have an interest in having a SotM prescence.
I've been talking with Peter. Apparently they don't have event scheduling up yet, probably this Friday. It sounds like we should probably schedule a few games each day, and have open demo time in between. Looking though this thread it looks like we have about four people planning to attend at least part of the con (and are presumably willing to help out with Sentinels stuff), so we should be able to have someone running stuff most of the time without it being too big a burden for anyone.
Would >Games be interested in sponsorship opportunities (including things like advertising in the program) or donating a copy of the game to the con's library?
I went to IndyCon last year, and I believe they don't really have a dealer area, demos, or events; it was mostly just open gaming. They do have sponsors and a fairly large raffle, though.
I'll start an email exchange w/ you, me, Christopher and Paul.
How do you think attendees and organizers would respond to one or more people setting up a specific area to play Sentinels? I'll let post if I learn anything from the person I emailed.
Sometime this weekend, I think I'm going to go to the hotel and check room prices, and possibly book a room. Even though I live maybe 5 miles away, I figure it would be a nice vacation away from the house, and, with a room at the hotel of the convention, would be much simpler to just stay until tired, and then just go to bed instead of drive back home. And wake up already at the convention.
Nothing conclusive yet, though I did hear back from someone. There's an opportunity for >G to do advertising. I'm hoping to learn more details before passing that on.
As for volunteers doing something organized at IndyCon, I'm not too hopeful at this point, but as noted, nothing conclusive yet.
I'm trying to figure out when to schedule events for Who's Yer Con. For anyone that is interested in voluneering to run games, could you please post when you would be available to run games and if you have a preference on when/how many.
I'll be available all day Friday, and after noon on Saturday and Sunday.
If I manage to get a room at the place, I should be available any time. If I don't, then it depends on what time I actually manage to get up each day.
