Well, I just got done teaching some friends SotM and we ended up easily winning a five hero game against Voss. Though I feel like I understand the majority of the rules pretty well, there were a few situations that came up that had me yearning for some clarification. So here it goes.
1. Can you choose the order that targets are damaged/destroyed if the card does not specify such?
Voss has a minion out that says "All Villain Targets take 1 less damage" and Voss gets an additional -2 from having a minion on the field so he's at a total of 3 damage reduction. The minion has 1 HP remaining. Tempest uses his ability that "damages all non-hero targets" while Galvanized. He would be dealing 2 damage to each non-hero target. Is it okay to say that the minion would be destroyed first, therefore removing the -3 damage on Voss so that the rest of the lightning ability can do damage to Voss? Or does the damage have to finish being dealt before destroyed targets are put into the trash?
2. Unity's Bots say "This card cannot be played during your play phase". During Omnitron-X's turn, he uses his Power on Unity (Draw a card from a deck; either put it into play or into the trash). He draws a Bot for Unity. Can he put it into play? Its not her play phase.
Similar situation, Argent Adept (or another hero with a similar power/card) says "1 Hero may play 1 card now." Unity uses this opportunity to play a Bot from her hand. The Bot does say, as stated above, "...cannot be played during YOUR play phase", technically its following the card's text, since it is currently Argent Adept's play phase, not Unity's. Is this legit?
Thanks for any insight you can give me.
1) yes, you can choose the order of the damage, and the minion will be gone when Tempest damages Voss.
2) Yes on both cases. When it is not her play phase, there are no restrictions on playing mechanical golem (beyond regular restrictions on playing cards). So if she can play a card on Adept's turn, she can play a mechanical golem. Also, even during her play phase, something which puts a card into play can work on a mechanical golem, because 'put into play' bypasses restrictions on 'playing' a card. So if she were to use Hasty Augmentation on herself or Omnitron-X they could use a power which puts a mechanical golem into play.
Well…this changes everything. No wonder I've always had such a rough time getting Unity set-up; I was missing that sweet little detail.
Thank you very much for the clarification!
Yes, though remember that you can still only use each power once per turn. So she should only use Hasty Augmentation on herself if she has another power for her regular power use.
Dyapaca pretty much said this already, but it bears repeating and calling out more specifically - there are two reasons why Omnitron-X's Timeshift works on Unity's bots, as follows:
1) It's not "your" play phase if you're Unity's player, so for anything that lets "you" play a card now, the Golems are completely legal choices as long as it isn't your turn (or is a different phase of your turn...I don't know of a way to let Unity play a card during her start, power, draw or end phases, but if such ways exist, they work just fine). This can include the Argent Adept's songs and a couple of The Scholar's cards, but also a great many incapacitated heroes.
2) "Put into play" is different from "play". Even if Unity does Hasty Augmentation on Omnix, and he uses Timeshift on her, despite the fact that it's her play phase, the golem can come into play just fine. (Heck, IIRC she's perfectly capable of using Hasty Augmentation on herself in order to Bot-Fix, Golem-Spawn, or use a Modular Workbench or Construction Pylon, since none of these "play" a Mechanical Golem, they all "put it into play".)
