(This is an experiemntal topic. I've seen guides on Heros and Villains, but none on environments. Depending on the feedback from this one I might do more, but if the common feeling is that environments are straight forward I'll move on to trying villains.)
The Tomb of Anubis
The tomb of Anubis is a creepy place, filled with booby traps, mummies, and most importantly treasure. From time to time Villains come here to wreak havoc or to raid the place for treasure. Here's some pointers on surviving this eery place.
Types of Cards: Trials, Treasures, Mummies
Number of target cards: 8
Strongest Target: Anubis with 20 hp. Also a nemesis of Ra
Special Mention: The two treasure cards provide a unique twist for this environment. When you destroy a trial card and a treasure is present, you can put the treasure card in front of a hero for an adtional power: one is healing and the other is damage.
Akana - When villain targets are destroyed plays top of environment, - Watch out for this one, it helps get out tricky environment cards.
Dificulty rank - 4 (According to the wiki)
Non-obvious rules note: The Treasures can be placed next to an arbitrary hero whenever any Trial is destroyed -- even if they have already been claimed before! If the tactical situation changes, you can re-alocate your Treasures.
This is a fairly moderate environment. It's also neutral in the sense that normally it will attack any target regardless of type of character. (Few exceptions.) The theme of this environment is amazing. I love the treasure hunt feel it has, and always look forward to the treasure.
Villains with this environment
Akash Bhuta - Since Akash Bhuta discards the environment so much it's frustrating and more difficult to stumble upon a treasure, But it makes them so much more special.
A lot of the villains work well with Anubis. (When a card is destroyed he deals two damage to the second highest hp.) More notably La Capitan who loves destroying your ongoings and equipments every chance she gets, and Omnitron who loves destroying devices.(off the top of my head.
The Ennead - Thematically this group of egyptian villains works well with The Tomb of Anubis. Anubis and the Ennead have the same nemeis symbol so they deal each other an additional damage.
Kaagra Warfang - Mixing these two together would provide a game that is largely around trying to gain benefits from the nonhero decks: Treasure from the tomb, titles from Kaagra.
Heros with this environment
The treasures are an awesome feature of this environment. Idol of anput is handy for heros that don't heal and rod of Anubis can be handy if a hero can't currently deal damage.
Mr Fixer and Rod of Anubis - If you have it in front of him, play Overdrive, use Rod of Anubis power first, and then still use Strike twice.-Also Mr. Fixer loves Rod of Anubis since it deals more damage than base power, strike.
Scholar likes the Idol of Anput - Its power is to heal two so naturally scholar can take advantage of this when healing to do damage and such.
Thematically Ra is great for this environment. Anubis has the nemesis icon for Ra so they deal extra damage to each other.
Playing Captain Cosmic, Sky Scraper and Chrono Ranger in Tomb of Anubis against Kaagra Warfang would result in a game where nearly every deck is playing cards on other characters, Good luck!
Anything I should add? Tips thoughts? Suggestions? Anything you suggest will help me with future guides.
This environment can escalate quickly between Urshe, Judgement of Anubus, and Shamise which will likely bring extra cards into play. If Anubis is out it can make facing Voss or the Matriarch a bit more difficult since you likely will be taking out one of there targets over the course of multiple turns.
Non-obvious rules note: The Treasures can be placed next to an arbitrary hero whenever any Trial is destroyed -- even if they have already been claimed before! If the tactical situation changes, you can re-alocate your Treasures.
Might be worth listing Heroes who particularly like certain treasures.
Might be worth explicitly calling out that you want to carefully note what things are likely to be damaged by specific Environment cards as they come up, as many of them will be helpful, at least for a while.
Mr Fixer loves having the Rod of Anubis. If you have it in front of him, play Overdrive, use Rod of Anubis power first, and then still use Strike twice.
I love this environment - it can be nasty but never fails to be something you have to deal with, the treasures are a great touch (before Capt Cosmic, the Rod was Fixer's BFF) and it hurts everyone. IMO, this is still the gold standard of environments in the game
You could mix this up with Kaagra Warfang for a game that's hugely about gaining benefits from the none-Hero decks; Treasures from the Environment, Titles from the villain.
I suppose if you wanted to go absolutely barmy, you could throw out Captain Cosmic, Sky-Scraper and Chrono-Ranger as the heroes, and wind up with every single deck putting cards on each other!
With its lack of ongoing/equipment destruction, Wraith can effectively neuter the deck by getting all three Mega Computers out, since even with its boosts, none of the cards do more than 3 damage at a time. Visionary's Mass Levitation gets the same thing done, but you have to keep doing it round after round.
This means you can leave the environment cards out and Ra's Scorched Earth suddenly becomes insane. On the other hand, cards like The Desert's Wrath become equally dangerous to you, so know what's in the villain's deck before pursuing this strategy.
Not quite true. Nomti will still deal 1 damage. 2, if Cast into the Underworld is out, although considering that this strategy means there will usually be a great many environment cards out, Cast into the Underworld will rarely stay out for long.
Also, there is one other card which isn't neutered at all here, and that is Swarm of Scarabs, which can be quite painful and difficult to deal with if you lack environment destruction.
This one’s pretty situational, but if you find yourself facing villain immunity to your damage type, the Rod can be handy.
For example, Wraith often gets two power uses, but both usually do projectile damage, so Omnitron’s Adaptive Plating Subroutine would neutralize her second instance of damage. The Rod offers her a way to hit with that second power use (assuming she’s not frantically searching Omnitron’s deck for Singularity cards, of course).
Tempest can be very effective with Genebound Shackles and his AoEs. You normally can't affect more than one target with Genebound Shackles (since the villain has a much higher HP total than every other villain target), but since the Ennead tend to have similar HP totals, you can often get the +2 on several targets by choosing them in the right order -- chip off 3 to 4 HP on the highest target, then selec the one who now has the highest HP. Rinse, wash, repeate.
It becomes even sillier when you have the lightning storm power in pay that hits everything for 1 damage. I was in a game where Tempest did 7 damage to most or all of the Ennead every turn by abusing their hitpoint totals (literally and figuratively).
