I’m not sure why she’s giving me such a hard. She doesn’t, on paper, seem like too much of a hard***, but I just get flat-out wrecked by her. Am I focussing too much on her crew? Am I fighting her in the wrong Environment? Wrong team make-up? Do I just suck at life?
Any advice y’all can offer would be gravy. She’s starting to give me a complex, and I already have a wife for that. For references sake, I own the core set, Shattered Timelines, Unity, The Scholar, and Silver Gulch and The Final Wasteland.
You want a team that can do a lot of damage very quickly so that you can get rid of the boat as soon as possible. Characters that stop the villain deck from playing cards such as Nightmist and Legacy are also incredibly useful. Deck manipulation is also great against her, but only after you've destroyed the boat. Characters that consistently play multiple cards for multiple hits in a round like Chrono Ranger and Tachyon can also be very useful as a way to get rid of the cards under her when she's flipped.
Playing in a more hero neutral environment like The Block or hero friendly one like Freedom Tower will help. I certainly would not recommend playing in Megaopolis or Rook City.
La Capitan has limited destruction, she doesn't wipe the field, deal with that by getting a lot of cards out, ones you don't even need. Protect the ongoings/equips you really want.
Get rid of the Boat immediately. If you can hide it out of her trash so she can't get it back.
Prioritize the Crew.
In (H)=3 fights Siege Breaker and Trueshot are easier to ignore than take out. Mabel is awful, you must destroy her. Try to deal with others in ways that take less effort, cards like Chastise or Zealous Offense, Wrest the Mind, Smoke Bombs can take the bite out of her crew and let you focus Cap down.
My favorite hero to face her with is Visionary. Suggestion to bury the boat, wrest for L'epieste, and her ongoing recovery and ongoing cards to sacrifice make her great.
LC is one of the swingiest villains in the game, especially given her printed difficulty (Infinitor is also like this). An early Raiding Party or badly timed Motley Crew can steamroll you; in other cases you can take out the ship by turn 2 and or getting either low impact crew or oneshots that are not effective. This is why, as mentioned above, deck control really neuters her. Given the sets you have I'd recommend Visionary, Wraith, high impact damage dealer (Ra/Tempest/Haka), amd someone like Chrono Ranger who can ping.
If La Capitan started with about 45 HP, you could probably ignore her crew and just beat on her directly and win the damage race. The question then becomes how to get her down to that amount without losing too much HP yourself.
So, you slow her down by taking out her ship as quickly as possible and you prioritize the crew as mentioned above. If you have heroes who hit all non-hero, then you can focus on keeping the crew pain down while slowy whitling La Capitan to a low enough point that you can pivot and attack her while ignoring the crew. If you have heroes that build up to big attacks, then you focus on the crew until you can get a couple of big attacks that bring La Capitan to the point that you can pivot and focus on her.
If you've got deck manipulation, you keep her from bringing out the ship, the cards that bring out lots of crew, and the worst crew members. As mentioned above, you get out as many non-essential cards as you can so you can sacrifice them and keep your best stuff. When she flips, you flip her back as quickly as possible by pinging her with lots of small shots.
La Capitan is one of the most swingy villains. A bit of luck and or deck manipulation and she can seem too easy. A bit of bad luck, though, and you get swamped with crew and extra card plays.
Very true. I'm mostly indifferent to her now, but I hated her at the beginning because I just kept having too many games where the boat was out, her crew was out, and she was at full HP and everyone was dead just because she kept getting her stuff out of the trash immediately after we killed them.
I've had similar experiences with this Pirate Wench! She can be really, REALLY difficult to beat if the cards come out in the wrong way. But that makes finally beating her feel awesome!
We just lost to her (with ten health left) with Ra, Absolute Zero, Argent Adept, and Haka. A lot went right, but the turning point was definitely when Battle Forged killed off the Adept, removing our team support and triggering a Raiding Party. One more round and we would have had her!
There always seems to be the one villian people always struggle with. I have never seen anybody have troubles with cosmitron, but I cannot for the life of me beat him because he always gets out a large wave of drones that deal too much damage. Always
I'm with you on Cosmitron. I focused on him for a while to get a better sense of how to beat him and now merely find him diffiult rather than impossible.
