Hello fellow fans of the Multiverse , this is a thread that needed to be made if not now at least in the future since this is a topic that addresses the game most of us love so much . I am going to be talking about the different characters the game creaters have come up with and what makes them stand out . I am going to talking about the Pros and Cons of people compareing these characters to Marvel and DC characters cause it seems a lot of people do . I know some make sence but others are just silly and should not be just because of some similarity's to other popular / main stream characters . So sit back and enjoy while I try to explain as best as I could why some are ok and others are not . Side Note - Please do not try to start somehing with me over this topic , I know people ahve their own opinions on this issue but that is no excuse to say whatever you want because you don't agree .
Another Side Note - the Wiki for the game is nt very good , who eber is editing the pages most of the comparsions are ok / good / Bad .
I will forst be talking about the characters and the comparsion to popular heroes / villians of comic books so here I go , some are easy while others are not so easy to spot . Some of these will be from the wiki and others will be from my own know how about comics . Heroes Legacy - Superman / captain america Bumker - War Machine / Iron man Tachyon - Flash The Wraith - Batman Absolute Zero - Mr. freeze Mr . Fixer - Dare Devil Expatriette - Punisher Ra - Thor Tempest - Aqua man / Namor Haka - Hulk ? The Visionary - Moon Dragon Fanatic - Angel ? Argent Adept - Dr strange / Doctor fate ? Nightmist - Scarlet witch / Zatanna ? Parse - Green Arrow / Hawkeye Captain Comic - Green latern Naturalist - Beast Boy The Sentinels - Fantastic Four
I think you people get my point so I am going to stop here and move on to other things in this topic .
My Thoughts I have to honest here marvel and DC have copied from each other and I don't see people talking about it , it's like after a while the fans from both sides just accepted it and moved on . I hope that when Chris and Adam makr comics with these character that the same thing will happen cause right now some things are not cool . Examples - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5hsPB8Lndw , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfCmN9LUtCE , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVzC29t0BOk . these are a few or many video examples that show that marvel and Dc have in deed took ideas / concepts / were influence / Inspired by each other . I don't see anything wrong with what Adam and Chris did for the their characters since everyone does it when it comes to character design . People should remember that just because some thngs are similar does not make them the same as blank , one of the most silly comparsions is Parse to hawkeye / green Arrow . Like this one is plain silly since becaus eshe uses a bow and shoots arrow she a hawkeye .
I think it's time to move on to the Pros and Cons art of this thread since there are both good and bad that comes wth coparing these characters to marvel and DC characters so lets begin . Pros
it 's good for the games since if yu are a super hero fan you would like the characters and game .
The character are relatable to popular heroes so if you like a popular hero to would enjoy playing as oe that is similar .
The characters do have alot things that just scream Comic / more stuff which is good .
For the Game aspect it 's good
Comics and super heroes are a popular subjset / topic and that is maybe whythe game is so popular today
It's a fun way to get people into playing the game if there a comic book fan
Cons
Alot of the compaisions are very silly and uncalled for
The character are all unique in their own way that is different from mavel and DC
It's and insult to the character and to the creator that toy think the character are copy cats / ripoffs , ect which is bad
From a story view it's bad
Similar does not the the same so people please stop thinking like that
Marvel and Dc are not the only comic book companys that do superheros so please stop saying that it's only them . You are give them too much credit which is bad
People have to stop looking at the character form one view which is just ABC thnking , try thinking outside the box folks . these character are not one dimentional , they have a level of depth that is not so simple which is great cause it shows that Chris and Adam were really thinking / trying when they made these characters .
I hope that I was able to at least make people see that these characters are more then they appear / seem so lets talk folks , I am all ears
I've got the feeling that you are partially basing this post on the notion that anybody in the history of this game and forum has ever turned around and said "These Sentinel Comics characters are like these real-life comic book characters" with the intent of marginalizing the insane amount of creativity, time and hard work that Christopher and Adam put into Sentinel Comics. I am pretty sure that has never happened here, and if it did, the forum would probably kindly and politely be down on the offender like a ton of bricks.
Sentinel Comics is inspired by other existing comic book universes - intentionally inspired, even. Looking for the occasions where homage has been paid strikes me as being totally normal behavior - for comic book nerds, anyway. Granted, some comparisons are pretty weak and solely based on shared powers and I really don't think the Hulk and Haka have anything in common at all. But I can tell you all of 5 ways in which The Wraith is like Batman: both have gadget-based powers, are super rich, have lost a loved one to crime, have inherited a huge company and live/work in a pretty rotten city. Doing stuff this way is a damn sight easier than saying 'Okay, this is a thread where we examine why The Wraith is NOT like Batman'. That would take forever and it's kind of a given, so we tend not to do that.
Anyway, it's not like we all have been lacking in praises for the insanely awesome, fairly diverse, multi- dimensional and fantastically characterized characters in Sentinel Comics. Pointing that out is like the number one past-time here on this forum - apart from making puns, maybe.
(In conclusion, I agree with you that the Sentinel Comics characters are not some low-res rip-off of other, more mainstream superhero comic characters. I also think the whole topic kinda is a nonissue.)
A kind and polite ton of bricks! That is a beautiful image you've just put in my head, Julia.
I would add that Christopher and Adam have never claimed not to take inspiration from comics. Christopher and Adam love comics, and that love of comics birthed this game, so it'd be silly to claim otherwise (especially given the various bits of art that call out specific comics). And as Julia said, pretty much all the praise and criticism of the Sentinels multiverse I've seen is entirely on its own merits, rather than on what it pays homage to.
And it's an interesting choice to, in two consecutive paragraphs, ask people not to disagree or argue with you and then casually and undeservedly insult all the people who have worked hard on the (really very good) wiki.
It actually struck me recently that, while Iron Man / War Machine are the obvious comparisons for Bunker, a few comparisons could be made between Absolute Zero and Iron Man as well. The most striking one, in my opinion, is that both have significant physical weaknesses that can be circumvented by technology but remain a danger to them if the tech fails or is broken.
More evidence for the comparison: I like to try and make the Iron Man hand thruster prreeeeeeeeeeee-FGHOOM noise when I deal cold damage as Absolute Zero.
There’s definitely a lot more to these characters than just inspiration from the comics.
With that said… Tempest also has a considerable amount of Storm in him (like, his entire power set) and Fanatic is more like Azrael than Angel. I suppose you could say she’s a combination of them since she has wings.
I mean, no. Most if not all of us get the point. Most if not all of us agreed with the point before you made it. The homages are still there, though, and discussing how well various characters fit onto others is an interesting enough area of discussion that people have branched out into it. (Welcome to the forums. We don't stay on topic for long.)
Also a couple of people have made rather good counterarguments to your post, but if you want to ignore them in favour of nodding sanctimoniously when someone agrees with your uncontroversial opinion then, well, you do you.
I would first like to say thank you for what you said cause i really did not like what that user said and did . I am going to ignore the user but if the user starts to become a problem can I PM you to handle it ?
