Dangling Plot Threads

Heres a few of the old and new plot threads that have been rattling around in my head as we all prep for Oblivaeon.

1. The Fate of Fyodor Ramovat:

If you read Baron Blade's bio, you'll notice that it never explicitly states that (Grandpa) Legacy kills Blade's father. The actual words are:

"Weakened by the fighting, the factory collapsed in on itself, and Legacy was the only one seen escaping from the burning wreckage"

Now, I tend to think that Christopher chooses his words carefully, and thats pretty telling.  Especially since earlier on in the bio, it was revealed that Fyodor had just finished work on an orbital shrink ray!  Its a very interesting idea to me that Fyodor was shrunk (willingly or unwillingly) and taken prisoner, where his mechanical genius could be used in service of the USA (remember- it was the height of the cold war).  We know that in our history, scientists were prized at the time- think about Operation Paperclip- so to gain the technical expertise of one of their greatest minds while denying them the same would be quite a coup.  And again... this is Legacy we're talking about.  Sure, Grandpa Legacy was a soldier in WW2, and carried a gun...but would he kill an enemy trapped in a burning command center?

I kind of think that Fyodor is currently at FILTER, designing their tech, or Fort Adamant working on the bunker project (remember- one of his greatest successes was making a walking tank), and that when Baron Blade killed Grandpa Legacy, he killed the only person who could have told him the truth.

2. Revenant

I've been stuck on this one for a while. Who IS this mysterious person?

I asked Christopher, and he said "Which Revenant"?

My current theory is that their are two Revenants- one during the events of SotM, and a different one during the events of Sentinel Tactics.

Revenant 1.0: I'm pretty sure that the Revenant we see doing things is SotM is the Idealist's father, or what's left of him.  We know that the Idealist's mother was trying to bring him back from the dead, and that in the process, Miranda Fischer's mind was wiped. Well, that kind of superscience and cavalier disregard for safety sounds EXACTlY like Revocorp.  They are suspects in ALL sorts of things- the facility that gave Setback his strength (and killed lots of people in the process), Plague Rat's "taming" (which killed lots of people in the process), Ambuscade's powers (which scarred him "horribly" in the process, and he then killed lots of people).  Its entirely likely that they were involved in making Fright Train bigger and badder.

Now, he's back from the dead, but maybe not quite all the way.  Its entirely possible that he needs the suit to survive- either because he's a cloud of infernal energy (much as doctor medico is an energy form), or because the body he came back to is slightly less than fresh.  Does he remember he has a daughter?

Revenant 2.0: I'm pretty darn sure that the Revenant we see in Tactics (in silhouette) is the Idealist. I think that she went bad.  Maybe she thinks she's doing it for the right reasons, maybe (prior to the mindwipe) she wasn't a terribly nice person.  Maybe she's trying to harness the power of the Oblivion Shards to get Dr. Medico, Writhe, and Mainstay back from the dead.  Maybe the new Revenant is just an evil version- all of her positivity went into her physical form, and the bad side got shuffled off.

3. Maia and Tyler:

They are totally dating. In the plot arcs revealed by the Oblivaeon ARG, they sure seemed awfully flirty.

According to Christopher, "Maia and Tyler definitely have things going on", which could be taken several different ways. I prefer to think that it means they are dating. It could also explain why Freedom Six Wraith went so dark- her first boyfriend getting beaten caused her to become the Wraith- think about what it would mean if another one died while she WAS the Wraith?  That might cause her to take steps like getting rid of the Chairman and Operative, and sampling some of the drugs they were using in an effort to transcend her human limitations...

4. Chokepoint and Writhe:

We know that Eugene Wilkinson initially produced the cloak by way of techology, and in the "Assault on Fort Adamant" section of the ARG, it specifically states that Writhe used his "shadow tech" to gather the intel and upload it.   We know that Chokepoint is all about absorbing tech.  Why couldn't she absorb Writhe's tech?

We've seen a back, spiky, fanged thing standing over Writhe and attacking Setback.  It could be related, and several other people like Foote have compiled excellent threads on the subject.  Maybe Chokepoint couldn't take it because it was alive.  This may well be additional proof that the cloak is more of a living thing than even Writhe suspects.

Fanatic/Apostate. You missed a MAJOR one here!

Recall in Tactics art that a broken Condemnation is seen in that museum that new Ra finds the Staff in which means it was broken before Tactics takes place. Also recall Apostate is group affiliated with "The Host". Who/What is that? What is the relationship to Fanatic and Apostate. Is what he said true about her? What was his goal coming to Earth in the first place and what happened to him after? How did Fanatic apply the runes to that templar blade and armor to create Absolution and her Aegis? What are they?

There has been nothing said about this entire story line and its been how many expansions now? We don't even get flavor text/art about it outside of Apostate/Fanatics decks.

Edit: Just read the Q&A thread....I'm pretty sad about it

Foote, I think the payoff with Fanatic/Apostate/The Host will be worth it. Sorry to make you wait.

And how long would it be before more is known about the Host…?

(I can at least try, right?)

I have no doubt it will be awesome. Just let me be sad for a bit that I have to wait though. I'll get over it I promise.

Calling it now:  The Host is going to be one of the final expansion environments.  AKA "The end of the world is here, and an army of angels just showed up as the cavalry."

I think the host is going to be resolved in the tactics portion of the timeline

Love the speculation about Fyodor Ramovat - maybe THAT is the hero Baron we will encounter in OblivAeon?

Based on some of Chokepoint’s flavor text and the fact that she paid off his suit…I’d kinda think Maia is more interested in Ryan Frost. Just throwing that out there.

I thought Ryan had something with Vanessa Long, or was it just theories?

I think there's too much of an age gap between them ,never saw them as a couple

Visionary is still a teenager and AZ is in his 40s if I remember correctly. No way is there anything between them.

OH! I remember something!!!!

There is ONE unidentified character still at large! The villain on PW Tempests incap art!

Edit: one more thing! Who is Deathrattle?

Where was the name mentioned?

Read some flavor text in Gloomweavers deck. I forget the exact card, but Deathrattle is quoted. He is likely a cultist, but if he was important enough to get a proper name, and isn't featured in the deck, then I want to know what the deal is there.

It's on Profane Zealot. Could Deathrattle be the name of the Profane Zealot?

I also noticed Cult Leader Massey is quoted twice. Who is he?

There are multiple Profane Zealot's in the deck. If it was unique (like Ophidia) there would be only one. Thats why I thought maybe it's a cultist, but we don't know.

Cult Leader Massey is just that, the cult leader. The Cult of Gloom, from what I was told by Adam, was around in the comics for a long time, way way way before Gloomweaver made his first apperance. Cult Leader Massey was the main villain pretty much in the comics of this group until Gloomweaver showed up. Not sure why he isn't featured in the deck though.

I’m fairly certain Cult Leader Massey is on the card Vast Following. Perhaps he isn’t the type to get his own hands dirty

Questions to ask on this week's Q&A!

Also, they still haven't explained how Citizen Dawn is connected to OblivAeon yet.  Her power source is listed as "Cosmic", which usually refers to OblivAeon and is different from every other character with a listed power source (Captain Cosmic and Infinitor don't have full bios yet, Cosmitron doesn't have his power source listed, and most of the other characters with innate powers have their source listed as "genetics").

Is the power of the sun not "cosmic" in a way?
