Ok, with all the Launius love stemming from SotM, I have to ask about this. I’m considering jumping on the kickstarter for Defenders of the Realm: Battlefields, for both the board game and the new card game. Sell me on it, at least for the board game. Has anyone played?
Well, from the brief overview, I don’t really have any interest in Battlefields. Defenders of the Realm, however, is a very good game. It’s certainly worth a look if you’re into cooperative games, which I would guess you are, since you’re here and all. It plays in about two hours. The team plays heroes whose goal is to repel the attacks of four different armies of baddies on noble Monarch City. It’s got classic fantasy art by Larry Elmore, complete with nonsensical female clothing. I’m very fond of it. When I brought it home, my sister played it once… and got HOOKED. She loves this game so much, and always goes first. (Rules specify that the first player is the most aggressive - “You all know who that is.” It’s a fun rulebook, too.)
