Did we cheat or did we actually win vs Wager Master?

Ok.... we were in a real jam...

It was Tachyon, Captain Cosmos and Guise  against Wager Master... and the fight was going really long due to some of the Conditions in play

We were slapping him around a bit until he got the condition "If Wager Master as 0 or few points the heroes loose"

-CRAP-

Mark who was playing Tachyon had a thought... one of his cards allows him to do destroy a target that has 2 or fewer hp. If played on Wager Master he never dropped below 0, but would be 'destroyed' thus giving us a victory?

We debated it... then played it just to end the battle... I allowed it at my game table provisionally until it was discussed here. My players can be a bit munchkiny.

SO... here is the question...

Did we cheat?? Was our ruling correct, since the card does not say it does damage, WM was never dropped below 0.
Does "destroying a target" actually do damage, or did we successfully sidestep a nearly unwinnable battle?

Your thoughts?

BTW our next battle was Setback, Guise and Captain Cosmos agains Miss Information in the Ruins of Atlantis... our heros got slapped around by the secretary!!!! That teem should NEVER (and probably will never) be played again at my table.

You won and played within the rules.  A similar scenario deals with Apostate.  His flip condition says if he is reduced to 0 or fewer HP and still has a relic in play you flip him instead.  Well using something like Sucker Punch allows you to defeat him and not flip.

Also, Setback Guise and Captain Cosmic is a great team. Just not against Miss Information. No one is a good team against Miss Information.

It’s a funny tactic to use, just because it seems as though the spirit of the card text forbids a victory that way, but villians can easily say “when this card would be destroyed” stipulaton, like Baron Blade does. When they don’t, it’s fair game!

And honestly, what better way to beat a cheating gambler than to sucker punch him in the face :innocent:

Back of the head, kidney strike, knee popping strike?

Bunker is a good team against Miss Information.
