Ambuscade has Charged Attacks and a Custom Hand Cannon with 4 HP in play. At the end of his turn, he deals a total of 4 damage to Tachyon, who has a Synaptic Interruption.
Tachyon redirects the damage to the Hand Cannon. Then she would go on to destroy Synaptic Interruption, but the Hand Cannon is destroyed first, triggering Ambuscade to deal each target 3 damage.
Tachyon redirects this damage to Ambuscade. Then she finally destroys Synaptic Interruption.
I’m thinking that she could keep this going as long as she destroys Devices with each redirected hit. (Though the other heroes might not be so happy with her.)
I am not sure if the Hand Cannon is destroyed before Synaptic. The video game has it destroyed when the attack is initiated, not after the attack and damage is resolved (I think).
That being said, I am not 100% sure exactly when it hits the trash. For example, if you use Lightspeed Barrage on yourself then redirect it, would it be in the trash to add another damage to the new attack?
You only get one use out of synaptic per time you play it, unless the destruction is prevented, the card cannot act again once it is being destroyed.
Ambuscade's retaliation is not part of the redirection, it takes place after the redirected damage is dealt. Synaptic redirects and destroys itself. it doesn't wait for all the events to play out, it does both.
I suppose someone named Tachyon ought to have some feature that violates causality!
You’re right, phantaskippy, it does say “and.” I was thinking it’d work like similarly worded cards that say “do x, then do y.” Maybe a more unambiguous way to word it would have been, “If Tachyon would be dealt damage, you may destroy this card. When this card is destroyed, redirect the damage to a target of your choice.”
I’m still kind of curious how this discussion pans out.
I tried this in Mega Computer and Synaptic Interruption was destroyed before the Charged Attacks damage occurred. This doesn't make it the definite answer but that is how the app would handle it. I could see a scenario like Alacritous Subdominat where it's not destroyed fully until all the effects are finished.
That's how it worked in the game – and nearly cost me a game against Baron Blade because of it.
He pulled out Devious Disruption, and it would've done 20 damage. Blade had 20 HP left, so I just let it go hit Tachyon first. Before the damage hit, SI was destroyed and it only hit Blade for 19 damage. Luckily, it killing two of my team removed enough Ongoing and Equipment cards to let the others survive it, but it was a close one.
Alacritous works because the destruction is "if you do, destroy this card." It won't trigger until the effect finishes, because until then you haven't "used a power." Since the effect of Alacritous' Accompany effect is to grant you another power, it isn't finished until the power it grants is finished, and if that power grants a card play that grants a power. . . You get the idea. The whole chain has to finish before the destruction is triggered.
I get that part I'm just bringing up a card which isn't immediately destroyed. My what if on it though is if the accompany text on Alacritous Subdominate said use a power and destroy this card similar to text like Synaptic Interruption. In that case would it grant you an extra power use and go away immediately like Synaptic Interruption?
