Drake's Pipes: what is a 'different' melody card

What does `different' mean on Drake's Pipes? The card says: `activate the perform text of up to 2 different melody cards'. Does this mean two cards with a different name, or just two cards, and not the same twice (which would allow you to use the same melody twice if you had its card out twice)? In another thread people suggested the later one, but when I really think about it, it feels as if the word `different' is a bit redundant then..

I believe it's two different melody cards. It's simialr to using two powers. Can't sue the same power twice.

Hopefully the restitutions from the first law suit would be enough.

I thought you COULD use the same power twice if you have two copies of it in play.

If you have two copies of the card in play, you effectively have two powers in play.  You can't use the same power twice, but you can use the power on the one card once, and then use the power on the other copy of the card once as well.

In more direct answer to the original question, yes, 2 copies of Rhapsody of Vigor count as 2 different melodies for Drake's Pipes.

Guys, please remember that performs/accompanies are not powers. Usually you can actually use the same perform card multiple times, as long as you have the instruments to do so. Drake's Pipes have an extra restriction (the `different'). So you can't draw a parallel to powers here.

@broccoli: what is your reasoning? I mean, out of self-interest, it's my favored reading too, but `different' is ambigous. Is there a similarly worded card where `different' clearly points to fysical cards instead of names?

I think the prescedent would be cards that target multiple things, e.g. hoarfire, it damages two separate targets but they can still be the same named card, just not the same physical card (e.g. 2 copies of gene-bound ion-lancer when facing Voss), they are considered different targets, not the same one twice.

Hoarfire is formulated in two steps (i.e. deal one target, deal a second target). A better comparison would be Thermal Shockwave (now that I'm looking through AZ's deck), which is formulated as 'AZ deals up to three targets 1 cold damage each' and intends the targets to be three separate cards. The word `different' isn't used. Drake's Pipes formulated like this would be `activate the perform text of up to 2 melody cards', which FULLY covers the `two separate cards' thing, as seen in Thermal Shockwave. However, this is NOT how Drake's Pipes is formulated. Instead it is `activate the perform text of up to 2 DIFFERENT melody cards'. Since `different' is not needed to bring across the meaning `separate cards', it's there to indicate something more: the separate cards need to be different too, i.e. have a different name. At least, that is my reasoning.

My reasoning is that Christopher said so during playtesting in the playtesting forums :)  (Otherwise I'd link it to you).

that is a very convincing argument  I do think the wording is a bit off then, but I clearly read too much in that then!

Thanks!

Unnecessary redundant wording. Occassionally slips in since the cards are written in English.
