Epic Moments in Battle

Anyone experience any Epic moment of battle during the game? Or character card combos that happened to come together at the right time? This game seems to be good at giving those moments where everything just seems to work out amazingly well.

The one that we just had was facing Baron Blade in Atlantis where a Kraken came out and made him flip sides, then he was malled by the two other Krakens during the final battle! It was awesome… not sure what he did to those Krakens to extract such a revenge from them but it was fun to watch.

During Gencon, some friends and I were playing against Citizen Dawn on advanced, and had no choice but to let her flip. I was playing as Bunker, and counted on my friends for crowd control while I got Omni-Cannon and charged it. after several turns, we finally flipped back and I unleashed, doing over 30 damage and knocking her low enough that the others could finish her off. It had a great feel though, because I basically said “Keep 'em off me, guys!” until the cannon was charged, then shouted “Get down!” as I blasted her.

I was playing last night with Absolute Zero, with my friend as Ra, against Baron Blade (I was easing him into the game). I had set up Null-Point Calibration Unit, Isothermic Transducer, Coolant Blast, and Focused Apertures. I had some fire damage already stored on Coolant Blast. When Baron’s turn came up, he played Slash and Burn. As I read the card step by step, I explained that he got damanged four melee. Then, as soon as I said that I would recieve six fire damage, he started laughing for a good five minutes or so. Afterwards I end up having him “power me up” on his turn, followed then by Hoarfire (choosing two cold against Baron Blade, two Fire against myself, and then one Cold and Fire against myself, which ended up powering Coolant Blast to eleven. After that round, I believe Baron went from a full thirty to only two. Oh, and he wants you to attend Ohiocon (or whatever it’s called in Mid Ohio in January).

I had a Bunker Omni-Cannon moment as well. It was Legacy, Tachyon, and Bunker against Baron Blade at the Mars environment. Baron was wrecking us, but a Meteor Shower flipped and bought me enough time to build Omni-Cannon up and take him down.

I do love it when the environment is what allows you to win. It gives a great feeling of desperation and chaos, that there’s an element no one controls that you can let help or hinder you, depending on your actions.

I had a game last night where we beat Baron Blade in 6 rounds (ok, well we won midway through the 7th). Fanatic/Ra/Zero, Turn 1 end of days to get rid of his platform (and a blade batallion), a bit of direct damage from Ra and Fanatic on turn 2, and by turn 3 we just sat in a Volcano while Ra made everyone immune to fire damage.

Incidentally, the environment draw I think was: River of Lava, Volcanic Eruption, Velociraptor Attack, Enraged T-Rex, Pterodactyl Theif, Velociraptor Attack. I kinda like to think the heroes were thrown back in time to fight Blade during the mass extinction of the dinosaurs. There was more or less a dinosaur being immolated every turn except the first two (and I think the T-rex took a couple rounds to burn to death, but he still counts)

Haha, that’s incredible! What amazing luck for that stuff to all come up!

Today me and my two friends were playing against Omnitron on advance mode. I used Tempest and they used Absolute Zero and The Wraith. We were beating him and were stablizing to where it was going to be pretty easy from there on out. Well Absolute Zero had like 4 equipment out and The Wraith had 8 out and he plays Technological Singularity and kills both AZ and The Wraith. At this point I had never seen that card before, now I will never forget it.

Sort of opposite of epic moment, after teaching a friend through defeating Baron Blade, we decided to try out Citizen Dawn. The first three Citizens drawn were Citizen Tears, Citizen Hammer, and Citizen Sweat. Talk about a non starter…

Ooh, ouch. Any combination of Blood/Sweat/Tears is really rough to start on. Same with getting Anvil and Truth or multiple Gene-Bound Guards while playing Voss. It easily becomes an uphill battle right from the start.
