Could be scary http://theletterspage.libsyn.com/episode-124-creative-process-phobias
Let's all talk about phobias! :D My mom's afraid of sharks thanks to Jaws. The mention about Pete being afraid of them made me want to chime in.
Me, I used to be afraid of heights, but I've since adjusted it into a fear of falling. I'm okay up high so long as I feel safe, on stable ground!
I am also majorly afraid of spiders, but I've been gradually decreasing that over the course of my life. I no longer freak out the instant I see one. Tarantulas don't bother me, and I'm no longer afraid of jumping spiders. All the other ones can get out, though. <.< They're rude.
Other less interesting fears include the depths of the ocean and infinite things. And probably failure.
So... what are the Forbidden Topics? It sounds spoookyyy....
(And they gave some clues. Anybody have a very old question that has not been answered?)
They talked about Mr. Fixer, Mr. Hideous, and Mr. Jitters but they forgot about Mr. Fox and Mr. Stibbens.
I hear you about heights TakeWalker, I was suposed to do repelling for ROTC in highschool and froze competely
The moment they said "Jitters," I started thinking, "Nah, not just 'Jitters.' Doctor Jitters maybe? No, Mister Jitters!" And then the next thing out of Christopher's mouth was suggesting Mister Jitters.
Also I'm amused that the day before this episode came out, in which they discuss winning a court case by having a dog as the defense attorney, Disney announced that The Shaggy D.A. will be coming to Disney+.
They do kind of have one “-man.” Stunt-man!
(It doesn’t really fit the formula, I know, because “stuntman” by itself is already a word.)
Edit: Wait, there is one. Magman!
Oh, for sure. I bet lots of people do. If we wanted, we could go do question searches and compare notes. ![]()
It’s fascinating… they’ve had plenty of letters that they read on-air, but then gave answers like “time will tell” or “I’m sure that doesn’t matter, no, nuh-uh” or even a blunt “we’re not going to talk about that.” I wonder what makes a topic so “forbidden” that they won’t even acknowledge that somebody asked about it?
My first thought is that it’s not about hiding plot points so much as it is the same legalistic thing that led to the policy of not allowing fan-created game content on this forum. Though since they explicitly create stuff from fan suggestions sometimes on the podcast nowadays, I don’t know where any of those lines would be.
At the very least, we can be excited about the tease of plot twists coming out in future games!
On that note, wasn't there a mention of "Saw Man" from an earlier episode? Like, some kind of background, throwaway, intentionally terrible Z-list villain?
So what do we think Mr. Jitters looked like?
I am thinking a reedy, nervouse Nelly, hen pecked husband type. Formal enough to insist on being called "mister" figure he wears a suit and tie. Possibly in a ghastly green or macabe purple but i figure he parks his car near the bank puts on a mask while he is waking upto the bank door, robs the place walks out takes off the mask and goes back to his car with out drawing all atention to himself
His mask i think is either a classic domino mask or a cheap plastic Halloween spook mask- possibly based on Harvey comics "Casper the friendly Ghost" the magic relic would be worn as a tie clip or on a pocket watch chain. The guy having a rock on a watch fob and always playing with it could be the clue Legacy needed
Could one of the forbidden topics be project maligdinum?
Wraiths rouges gallery 12min 30 seconds in
he had saw blades down his fore arms, there was a lying cover art of Wraith tied to a 2x4 as he was sawing it in half
"The Phobias" would be a good name for a group of minor villains who all have similar powers (or can somehow make the theme name work), and one of the attempts at naming Mister Jitters made me think that "Mama Whammy" would be a good name for a curse-themed mastermind villain.
I could see "The Phobias" including someone dressed as a clown and some kind of demon-spider... ;-)
The Phobias could be early thugs used by Mr. Jitters- guy with a micro flame thrower or a sonic gun is kind of cool. Jitters is pointing at someone giving them Pyrophobia or Brontophobia very effective
the leader of Mr. Jitters gang could be Deimos an ex-prison guard that roughed up the inmates too much. He taught Jitters the meaning of fear with his night stick, Jitters taught him fear with the relic then they robbed banks together
other fears besides fire and loud noises could be sharp objects+blood a knife weilding slasher, Spiders fear could be a crawling wheel chair for a guy with bad legs. Balista phobia is just a fear of guns and easy to equip. Fear of the dark could be smoke bombs or a blackout beam super power
Then when Mr. Jitters figures out he can force The Hippo and Heartbreaker to work for him he lets these guys go as he moves on to bigger things. Now the henchmen have to try and stay a robbery crew with out villain support
I was also thinking that when Mr. Jitters internalizes the power and dose not need the relic we would see that as the stinger at the end of an issue. Jitters in prison orange reading a book in the prison library some big goon starts harasing him he looks up from his book on psychology we see the relic symbol reflected in his eyes and the goon backs away trembeling
Update on the Freedom Five board game has added Mr. Jitters as a new villain
Legacy has a fear of not measuring up to his family’s example. Young Legacy has a fear of being overshadowed and consumed by her family’s example, ergo Felecia Fields. The latter is probably not a real phobia, but it is the thing Miss Information would probably play on.
They invented Mister Jitters for this episode, but they kinda didn’t have to, because they’d already had Mister Hideous, who had fear gas originally.
Girl Legacy is awful, but Legacy Girl wouldn’t have been bad.
I wonder if Tony Taurus as a kid might have been captured by the cult of gloom, intended as a sacrifice, and gotten away but forever been scared of the occult. And maybe he was brave enough to take on the Organization when they were purely a gang, but then the Operative and then Zhu Long and finally it was too much for him. We know he fought Ashclaw Rivelos, but maybe he then got caught in a web by Perith and she literally slayed his soul, perhaps even without intending to.
They explain why Parse detected Miss Info but Legacy didn’t. Has it ever been explained why Visionary didn’t read Aminia’s mind and casually announce she’s evil? Even with her being Dark Visionary, it would be to her advantage to expose another threat.
A thing the early Expat and Paul stories should have name checked is that none of Amanda’s kills are murders. She’s effectively at war, a literal war against crime.
