Episode 296 of the Letters Page: Writers’ Room: Mystery Comics Vol 2 #278

The edge twins fight!

Oh my god, another two-hour episode! XD They’ve been cooking lately!

I did not know there was a Darkest Dungeon 2! :open_mouth: I also can’t imagine actually beating the first one. XD

I tell you, I was usrprised to see this was Mystery Comics, but I guess if Arcane Tales is all Ra, and Tome of the Bizarre is all Naturalist, it makes sense it wasn’t either of those.

Oh man, this guy sucks, I like him.

Oh, they’ll spell Axyl with a y, but not Darkstrife or Painstake? >:V

“I’m starting to respect this character in my mind the wrong way.” Yeah, this is how I feel about most of their 90’s characters lol

“It’s a solution to some problem, the problem being that I want to kill someone right now.” XD These characters!

I feel like we keep getting stories where Zane has to be uncharacteristically clever and clear-headed, we need more standard DSPS issues! XD

Him enraging her to burn off the fae influence is fucking awesome though.

Oh my god, it’s been a week for us and several hours for them, and I have no idea what this scale means anymore. XD

So what they’re saying is that a ghost is just a hero deck.

I am super interested in both the merging and body swapping stories, but mostly to find out how it happened and how they undo it.

Holy crap, I definitely was convinced that Wyvern Orb was a real property I had never heard of before.

Idealist watches Vine! I don’t know why this delights me.

I think Dr. Medico needs to sound like Legacy more often.

Wow, who knew Guise could fetch $100? :open_mouth:

Love the outro bit.

There’s a reason they avoid Darkstryfe Stryfe - Wikipedia

I’m sure they could have gotten away with Darxxtryfe if only they’d tried :V

Right? C&A have established a “red oni/blue oni” dynamic for the Edge Twins, and those kinds of dynamics are always interesting in the situations where they get reversed. Like how back in the X-Files you had Mulder as the believer for aliens and most science-y monsters, while Scully was the skeptic, but when whey they were dealing with potentially supernatural stuff, the dynamic reversed.

Once again me with the “whuh?” questions when C&A vaguely reference lore, but what was that about the end of Soul-Seekers having Darkstrife and Painstake create a “tripartate soul” and that it ‘fixed’ them in a way that made them less interesting? I don’t remember that.

I dunno, but there’s this card from the Disparation backerkit that shows them with three glowy orb things, which might be related (and it cites Soulseekers #6, which might be the end of that title?):

Probably a good follow-up question / topic!

In Ep 237, they said:

  • “We next catch up to them in the Soulseekers limited series that starts in March 2009 (which starts with their soul being corrupted by Æternus or something and they have to deal with that).”
  • “Soulseekers: A 6-issue Limited series from March-August 2009. They’ve talked about this a little above, but a Writers’ Room would be better in terms of getting more info.”

Going through all of Walking Target’s notes on Reddit, that’s about it!

besides the “single body union” and “body swap” there could also be the “mind link creepy twins speaking in unison” variant

Adam did the horror movie versions for Inktober if he does the new characters Darkstrife and Painstake should be in matching dresses standing in a hallway ala The Shining.

I’m suddenly thinking of a strange Frankenstein’s Creature type that’s parts of both of them stitched together.

100% there is a cover or an in-story nightmare with “composite Darkstrife Painstake”

I know it’s the Sierra fan in me talking, but I could not shake thinking “Did the guys accidentally make Blaze Savage a well-intentioned extremist version of Gabriel Knight?”
