Does anyone have some favorite set-ups? 4 or 5 player preferably. Just something they find a little more fun than the average game, lots of good player interaction, where even when you lose you go damn that was a good game!
When my brother and I play a game, our favorite group of heroes is Legacy, Absolute Zero, Unity, and Visionary.
The team works well together, and the individual heroes suit our temperaments. He plays Legacy & Unity, and I play AZ & Visionary.
We only play with three heroes but one of the msot fun games we had was TLT, Adept, and Unity (in that order) which led to Unity just wrecking whomever it was we were fighting thanks to TLT letting her get a large handful of cards and the Adept playing Inventive Preparation on the first or second round to let her chuck out pretty much all of her army :D.
Another fun one was Legacy, Ra, and...someone (probably doesn't really matter who) in Insula Primalis, versus Akash'Bhuta. Let the Obsidian Fields stay out, get everyone to zap stuff, and in between doing that get out Flesh of the Sun God and wait for the volcano - much fun :D.
Rook City Wraith would help with that…
I don't think you could go wrong with a team of Grandpa Legacy, Guise, Scholar, Argent Adept, and Unity.
I like Expat, AZ, Fixer, Parse a lot.
Parse and Fixer help solve reduction problems that hurt AZ, your destruction is strong and Parse's base power damage is a big help when things get rough.
I order them Parse/Expat/Fixer/AZ most of the time.
Setback, Scholar, Argent Adept, and Team Leader Tachyon.
I love playing Argent Adept and The Scholar for one particular combo: Vernal Sonata on AA's play phase, then use Inventive Preparation or Alacritous Subdominant to have Scholar play Don't Dismiss Anything. Up to five planned card plays in a single turn is insane.
We like GrandaPa Legacy, Santa Guise, Omnitron-X and Knife Rogue Agent. Each one of these cards has a power that makes other players do something out of turn. Even if you just had your turn you can't leave the table as you might be needed to play a card from the top or bottom of your deck, or the pile of cards in front of you or you might be using a power out of turn. If you need a 5th just add The Adept to the game.
I like thematic teamups.
One of my favorites is Ra/Fanatic(redemer)/AbZero. "Judgments by Fire and Ice" is my nickname for it.
Or you could go Haka(of knowledge)/Scholar/Legacy(granpda)/Fixer for a team of "the Elders"
Or maybe Tachyon/Unity/Parse/OmnitronX as a science-squad teamup.
How about Tempest/Sky/Nightmist/Fanatic as the "inhumans" (sorry marvel).
Bunker/AbZero/Legacy/Sentinels (adamant) as the "government watchdogs"
Wraith/KNYFE/Fixer (Dark Watch)/Expat as a type of X-force covert-ops group.
Take OmnitronX/ChronoRanger + anyone else and you get an instant timetravel storyline.
Nightmist/Ra/Argent Adept/Captain Cosmic gets you a "masters of magic" feel.
Setback/Guise/Unity/Scholar(?) is a fun pairing to me storywise because they all are funloving laid back kinda characters that would get into some fun shenanigans together.
Visionary is a time-traveller.
Good stuff! This makes me itchy for this weekend.
Sometimes, I just feel like dealing a lot of quick, steady damage:
Legacy, Mr. Fixer, Tempest, Ra, Fanatic/Haka
I'll take Haka if I'm afraid of a lot of damage taken and want to have a chance to Ground Pound. I'll take Fanatic if I just want to pile on more, quick damage. For single-target villains (Spite, Mad Bomber Blade) or if I don't want to hit everyone (Dreamer) I'll sub out Tempest. If I'm feeling sassy, I'll sub in Expatriette.
I like Expat (promo) and other characters that increase damage: Legacy, Ra, AA, Vis. Put them in an Evironment that increases damage, against a target rich villain, then watch as Expat kills everything as soon as it comes out.
No favorite 5-Hero group that comes to mind, but for solo play I usually go with Ra, KNYFE, and Parse.
Ohh yes, I just remembered a fun time we had once - Legacy, Ra, and Expatriette versus Gloomy. Hairtrigger Reflexes + buffs = all targets getting pewed when they come out. If that doesn't kill them we make sure they hit Ra first, who has Flame Barrier, so they die after only hitting Ra and then the resultant Zombie gets insta-killed by Expatriette :D.
My favorite set up is Young Legacy, Visionary, SS Tachyon, Wraith and Fanatic.
Yeah, had a similar game online where Voss dropped Forced Deployment, which is usually bad times. Argent made Legacy Galvanize, then Legacy Galvanized again and then Dark Watch Expatty played Hairtrigger and then activated Aim to deal 4 damage to everything that came out. Good times.
I don't have a specific setup but I like having Parse and/or Argent Adept in my lineup.
I have a few setups I enjoy myself, like Team Complicated (AZ, Scholar, AA and Omnitron-X, with Chrono-Ranger and Unity rotating as a 5th)
But I also enjoy putting the story teams together, and seing how they would function as per the comics
