Hello all, I’m new to the forums, and new to the multiverse. I just received the game from my participation in the Rook City Kickstarter, and I couldn’t wait to play it. My wife, my roommate, and I sat down to play and through random chance chose Omnitron and Megalopolis as the Villian and Environment. Little did I know that I was unwittingly setting us up for one of the simplest games of SotM available.
Onmitron didn’t ever have a chance. My roommate was Ra, my wife was Fanatic, and I was Bunker. Between Ra’s all damage all the time, and Bunker starting with the grenade launcher, none of the “discard when 7 damage is done to Omnitron” items had a prayer of sticking around. Add in Fanatics ability to keep up to two villain cards from damaging us until her next turn, and even the dreaded explosives were no threat. Other than a Singularity that forced me to go into turret mode to use my decommissioned hardwares to pull weapons back into play, it was a quick beatdown. My wife even began to feel sorry for the little robot. I see that we aren’t the only group that has wanted Omnitron to be more of a challenge, and I plan on using some the the Omnitron 2.0 tricks to soup him up for our next encounter.
Overall, the game was awesome, I am looking forward to the next challenge, and trying out all of these wonderful heroes!
Yeah Omnitron is definitely the easiest in my opinion! We wanted there to be some villains in the core set that are easy for new players just getting into the game. Definitely try advanced mode, as well as the trickier villains, for some more scaling
Also! Given the significant positive response we heard on the Kickstarter to the idea of an alternate Baron Blade, it is possible we’ll incorporate that idea and/or an alternate Omnitron into some sort of future release.
I haven’t fought the good Baron yet, though his flip mechanic is the most exciting to me so far. I would love to see alternates of the villains, even if the decks remain the same. I love the flavor that oozes out of every crack of this game and I can’t wait to delve deeper into the matchups and strategies. Overall, even with the beatdown that occurred, we all had fun creating the story of the time we demolished the run-away robot factory.
I am happy to report that our second game was much more satisfying and tense. The heroes were Tachyon (my wife), Absolute Zero (my room mate), and America’s Finest Legacy (me). We took on Baron Blade who had set up his Terralunar Impulsion beam on the dreaded Insula Primalis. After a nail-biting battle to destroy his invention, we curb-stomped the poor Baron into the ground. Absolute Zero was the high damage dealer, with Tachyon being the only thing between us and the Elemental Redistributors, while Legacy kept everyone alive and tanked a ton of damage. We all ended up below half health (until Zero’s final attack which healed him back over half)
As far as the players go, my roommate has fallen in love with Absolute Zero (he loves fiddly machine style Magic decks), and my wife found Tachyon to be fantastically fun to play. I find myself liking Bunker more than Legacy, but so far, Legacy wins the “hero I’d most like on my team” award. (even if I’d rather that someone else play him)
We are already gearing up for our next encounter which will be Grand Warlord Voss in the Wagner Mars Base. I am prepared for a knock-down, drag out fight, and I can’t wait to see how we do.
nicely done. I’d definitely reccommend using advanced mode on omnitron, I often find him to be more difficult than Blade… You’d be suprirsed how much differece +1 armor on all devices every other turn makes. A lot depends on his first few card draws, and on your team. Early electro-pulse explosive can make Omnitron very hard to beat.
Third game also ended in victory for our conquering heroes! Voss on Mars was super tough. Our heroes were Haka (me), Tempest (my room mate), and The Visionary (my wife). We slugged in out, only surviving a Forced Deployment onslaught due to The Visionary having the highest HP and being in a cocoon so that the damage didn’t finish us off before we could retaliate.
This was of course followed up by a Rampage that killed all of the minions and fueled the Savage Mana bomb that eventually did Voss in. (36 damage!!!) Very exciting and close contest with the heroes barely besting the Conquering Warlord. Tempest did his fair share, and his Cleansing Downpour kept us all in the fight.
Haka’s Haka of Restoration and Vitality Surges were absolutely necessary as I took the bulk of the initial damage and was down to 3 hp when a well timed Meteor Storm stopped all Voss’s damage long enough for me to get back into double digits.
Overall, it was a true slobber-knocker of a fight and I can’t wait until we get a chance to attack Dawn in the Ruins of Atlantis later this week!
(Also, we are thinking of trying to take on Omnitron in the Mars base with Bunker, Absolute Zero, and the Wraith just to see if that makes him into a challenge)
