I love sentinels and I believe this game will be great and I have pledged money. However one of the reasons I usually pledge on kickstarter is to get more content then the base game will have and to get kickstarter exclusives. My question is are the promo station cards kickstarter exclusives or just extra content that we the backers will get but once the game is released every1 else can immediately purchase? If they aren't exclusive are there any plans to release cool exclusive stuff cause that always gets ppl to back stuff? I missed out on all the exclusive promo heroes from sentinels so I was hoping there would be some cool exclusive stuff for this game
Even with the SotM promos, they haven't been exclusive. They've historically been available at cons and I've even seen promo packs in my FLGS. That being said, the promos are the easiest and cheapest to acquire from the Kickstarter.
I agree that more content for my pledge dollars is a huge motivator to back a Kickstarter. I'd like to see the list of funding goals be pepped up with more stuff than just extra Station cards, a bigger box, and better minis (which definitely does not look like a slam dunk at this point).
- Extra Sectors would be nice (maybe give people a hook so they are just dying to get them, like making one the Thorathian Sector or Hoth Sector or the Neutral Zone or something).
- Maybe alternate versions of the ship panels with wicked flames or wings or jaws painted on the sides of the ships.
- Alternate Opposition flagships should work just like alt SotM villains, so those should definitely be in the list.
- Of course, extra ships (since they're only a panel and 8 cards) should be all over the list.
$20k spaces between rewards of a single new Station card seems like a tough road to get to $150k.
Can't argue with any of that Spiff. I am sure >G would love to do all that as well, but lets keep a little perspective. It is still the sophomore effort of a small (but growing) company. While I agree the stretch rewards seem a little lackluster, I would think they want to save those bells and whistles for after the base game launches and they can take into account a much larger sample of player feedback of the game system.
I guess I am saying that I'm ok with things being kept simple. Too much too fast can be overwhelming for a game most ppl haven't played. Just my 2 cents
i didnt mean characters like unity or scholar. I meant dark visionary eternal haka redeemer fanatic the freedom six, you cant buy those anywhere right now only pll who backed sentinels have them. granted we will eventually get them but even then the kickstarter ones will remain unique. I do agree with you foote but i would just like 1 or 2 exciting stretch goals even if they were high up it would be something exciting to work towards.
It may just be me, but who says those promo station cards won't be like our promo Heros? I don't know much about the games specifics or what station cards really are/do, but they might be really awesome within context of the game. It's premature at this point to be convinced they can't be
I don't know much about the games specifics or what station cards really are/do
That's why they're a kind of weak stretch goal. If people don't know why they'd want to stretch to get them, their value as a goal is reduced. I'm sure they'll be great to play with. But their job right now is to motivate people to spend.
Besides, even if we get all 6 cards (x3 copies of each), they'll still just be 18 cards in the 90 + 18 = 108 card Station deck. That's not going to have the same impact as an alt hero card.
I'm not convinced they'll be bad. I'm sure they'll be fun. I'm just a little frustrated and think we can do more, better, Awesomer. I'll be bummed out if we just manage to get to $65k or $70k by the end, even though that's techincally a win since the project will have been funded. I want to go all the way!
yes i agree with you spiff. those cards may be exclusive but I just dont feel they have the impact the alt. hero had. I was looking at another kickstarter game Myth and they have raised around $100,000 in a day cause they have amazing rewards. Now I know thats a miniature game and the game costs more so its not a great comparison, but I have seen plenty of kicstarters take off when they have awesome stretch goals even cheaper ones. Either way we have funded whic is awesome and I cant wait to play this game just wish there were some great stretch goals to crank up the funding.
Yeah, I think of that Myth Kickstarter as the gold standard for what we should be aspiring to, too. You can look at the rewards and feel your fingers start to itch for when you'll get your hands on it yourself.
I'm trying not to get too frustrated at today's update, which says that the one thing we know for sure would motivate people to increase their Kickstarter funding (playtest access) will be done through their site instead of Kickstarter... ;)
I actually really appreciated that update. It means that they can get more people playtesting earlier. That means everybody gets a better game in the end. What it says to me is that >G care more about making the best game they can make than posting the highest KS numbers they can post. That's an admirable trait, IMO.
The other half is that a crazily overfunded KS with highly ambitious stretch goals means the game takes longer to make and their margin on each KS copy goes down. The relatively modest stretch goals say to me that >G have a well-scoped game in production and realistic expectations for what they can reasonably provide. There's a reason Shattered Timelines is one of two Kickstarted things I've ever received BEFORE the estimated date.
Those are good points, it's true.
Excellent point. I have received a reply for previously asking and >G has mentioned that the Promo pack would be available for purchase afterwards.
"The GSF promo cards will be available for purchase after the Kickstarter, but will be available free to all backers."
So it just mean its like how they were doing the previous mini expansions like Scholar, Miss Information.
What I really hope for is they add Thorians in the game, doesn't even have to be Voss. But the cross promotion would be cool.
The 150k of upgrading the boss ships seems the most appealing right now.
Extra ships and flagships, while obviously the coolest promos, have the largest overhead in terms of playtesting. I think there's a reason the first promo decks for Sentinels appeared with the Infernal Relics Kickstarter, by which time Sentinels was a mature design.
Let's face it, the upgraded miniatures stretch goal is what we all really want. The most exciting change they could make now would be to lower the point where that would happen so it's at least plausible. Also, let me get something off my chest, clearly G>G have seen the great success miniature gaming projects have had on KS of late and wanted a piece of that pie. For that to actually work however you MUST allow the prospective backers to see the minis!
Don't worry.
Minis look great by the way!
