I haven't done a big, epic RPG in a while; I tried Deus Ex: The Fall, and was sorely disappointed to find it was just part of an episodic game that was never finished, and that just didn't scratch the itch. So help me clear out my backlog by choosing one for me to go back and play through. My top choices are the moment are as follows:
Genesis Shining Force Landstalker
PS1 Vagrant Story Wild Arms
DS Mega Man: Battle Network 5 Double Team
3DS Bravely Default
PSP Final Fantasy IV: The After Years Knights in the Nightmare
GameCube Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
Wii Opoona
PC Alpha Protocol Quest for Glory: So You Want to be a Hero? Fallout 2 Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Geneforge 2 Beyond Divinity
I'm going to take a different route & suggest Geneforge 2. I love everything Spiderweb Software does, and when it debuted (granted, it's old now), I found the Geneforge saga to be something that was unique. Having played/completed Geneforge 1 is not necessary to understanding this one.
This is why I avoid sandbox games; I like having an actual goal in mind. I love having multiple ways to accomplish a goal, but the idea of having no real goal at all makes it pointless to me.
Anyways, I think I'll go ahead with Shining Force; it gives me an excuse to dust off my Nomad.
