I received my copy of Rook City this morning and with it the Hero & Villain HP tracker cards that were sent to all those who contributed to the Kickstarter project. I understand that the left column of numbers represent tens and the right column represents units but I don’t know how I should mark out the current HP total. The columns are too close together to just use paper-clips to indicate the current HP and placing a counter on top of the appropriate number would obscure the number and I don’t have counters small enough that they won’t obscure the numbers above, below and adjacent to the number that the counter is placed on.
I assume a number of other people who contributed to Kickstarter have received their orders by now and so have their own copies of the HP tracker cards. What have other people used to indicate HP on the cards?
I haven’t tried the HP counters, yet (I usually use dice, so I’m not sure if I will), but I have a lot of smaller counters I’ve used in the past for similar sheets that worked great. You can usually find them for cheap at places like Joanne’s or Michael’s - hobby stores will have them far cheaper than gaming stores. Those I use are fairly transparent, so you can see the number beneath, but even if you can’t you can tell what it is by those beside it.
Yeah, looking at the hp trackers the numbers do seem to be too small and close together to use with the glass beads I have available, I think for now I’m sticking to dice. But I do love the art on them, especially Tachyon, I love that pic of her.
My wife is into all sorts of crafty type stuff and she had these cabochons (yes, I didn’t know that was a word either). 7mm clear acrylic cabochons seemed to do the trick. They kind of look like this : http://www.allstarco.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=952&bc=no. 7mm seemed to be the right size for the counter cards. It’s kind of neat because it gives a raindrop effect to the numbers underneath.
Yeah, I’m planning to get some of those too. I think the one I have already are closer to 10mm, which is too big, so I plan to hit the craft store today and get smaller ones.
Btw, I just call them glass beads. I’d never heard that word before either.
My glass beads are larger than the numbers, but they tend to magnify; even though they cover the numbers above and below, only the one number is seen through the bead.
I’m having a bit of a problem with what to usse as well. Currently I have been setting pennies to the sides of the HP trackers, with the top of Lincoln’s head pointing to the appropriate number.
Thanks everyone. I found a bead shop in Birmingham that sold pretty coloured acrylic beads for 1p each; they’re colour-coordinated with the numbers on the cards and make the numbers even easier to read at a glance.
