Now, this shouldn’t be something personal like your address when you were younger or you parent’s middle name. It, also, shouldn’t be something related to your profession (if you have one). Rather, it should be something specific about a hobby you are interested in. For example, how to do a 3-beat weave with poi, or the different types of armors used in the 13th century.

I can do theoretical genetics crosses and work out the results and probabilities. I can do actual cross-breeding.

Anyway, with a faint grinding sound of the thread as I sort of heave it back on-topic, what do I know that people here probably don't? Umm...I know of an exploit/bug in Might and Magic VI that I found and which I've never seen mentioned anywhere on any website or anything and which thus leads me to believe that no-one else knows of it...or at least, if anyone has, they've not mentioned it publically ;).

The Jakobshavn Glacier in south-western Greenland is one of the fastest flowing ice streams in the world (around 20m/day on average) and is responsible for a significant percentage of Greenland's iceberg output into the Atlantic. It is generally considered likely that it produced the iceberg that sank the Titanic, given the position of the Titanic when struck.
For a typical glacier, the calving face (or area where the hundreds-of-meters-thick glacial ice meets the sea) is relatively stationary, with flow toward the face balanced by icebergs calving off into the sea. However, over the course of the past 30 years, the Jakobshavn Glacier's claving face has been retreating rapidly up the fjord following a deep under-ice (and below sea-level) trench in the bedrock. Because the trench increases in depth for the next 25km or so beneath the ice stream, it is thought that the retreat could continue, or even accelerate, over the course of the next few decades.

Have you ever met twins that finish each others' sentences? It isn't because they can communicate telepathically. It is because they think the same way. If they are in an environment or a conversation for a period of time, they'll come up with the same ideas. I know that dogs for the Iditarod Trail dog sled race are not pure bred Siberian huskies. The Siberian Huskies are not fast dogs but they are crossbred with other dog breeds so that they get that double coat to deal with the winter. Those other breeds can fall Labradors, Greyhounds, and Shepards breeds which are all faster. A team of dogs for a sled can go up to speeds of thirty-five miles per hour.
The Iditarod is crazy intense. Pretty much everything I know about it comes from Winterdance which is Gary Paulsen's account of his first Iditarod run, and it's truely mindboggling that he's still alive after what he described.

Hundreds of years ago, most glass windows were typically produced by taking a glob of glass and spinning it really fast until it flattened out into a disc, like tossing pizza dough. Window panes were then cut from the disc, which was thick in the middle and thin around the edges, so the surfaces weren't flat and the windows weren't uniformly thick. This is why many old window panes are thicker at the bottom (if you put the thick side on top, the pane is more likely to break), but some people mistakenly assumed that glass is actually not a solid, but a very viscous fluid, and the glass at the top would slowly flow down to the bottom.
There have been many other methods for manufacturing sheet glass, but the coolest one is a somewhat recent development (probably within the last 100 years). You take a vat of molten tin and pour the molten glass in on top of it. The tin is more dense, so the glass floats and forms a layer on top. Because they are both liquids, the layers are self-leveling; so the glass would have flat, parallel surfaces on top and bottom. Finally, tin has a lower melting temperature than glass, so you can let the glass cool and solidify while the tin stays liquid. The result is a pane of glass with flat, clean surfaces and uniform thickness, so no grinding or similar post-processing is required. I believe this method is used to create most modern window panes.

Tin also plays into an apocryphal story regarding Napoleon's defeat in Russia in 1812. Tin has two solid forms. The one more stable at very cold temperatures is almost non-metallic, brittle and crumbly. The story is that the officer's buttons were made of tin, which crumbled in the cold.

(Most knitted cables you've seen are what I'd call "vertical", where the direction of the braiding runs perpendicular to the rows of knitting. I worked out how to braid the knitted rows.)
